The screen of my blackberry Z30 has broken, can anyone suggest me the way forward..

Is it because of bad quality of raw materials used?

Thats the screen you need unless you have a Verizon z30. I broke my screen a couple weeks ago and replaced it with that one. It takes less then 10 min to replace it. You will need a torx screw driver also, I can't remember if it's a T4 or T5 though.

Check JC's YouTube channel for a simple tutorial on how to do it. JC is the "I hate my Z10" guy if you don't know who he is.

But my phone is under warranty, I asked the Indian service center and they said replacement is chargeable. I have checked with galaxy owners, I suppose Samsung has a tougher screen.

Any screen will shatter if the phone falls face down

Warranty only applies to factory faults. Dropping the phone needs insurance to cover the repair costs. If you don't want to repair it yourself, which is really easy from what I've seen, then you'll need someone to do it for you. And he or she wants money. That's how it works.

Just find out which model you have (STA100-x) and find the screen on the web. Takes about 20/30 minutes if you have the dexterity and go slowly. Whatch his video on replacing the screen. T-4 torx head, 10 screws.

Thank you all for your help. I got the screen changed from the blackberry service centre as my phone was still under warranty i.e. for all other parts as well. They charged me INR 10,500 (USD 175). But I will be filing an official complaint to BlackBerry for use of cheap quality raw materials at least for phones sold in India.

I draw this reference from the fact that in the near past blackberry India announced big price cuts on their models including z30.

Warranty only covers manufacturer defects which this is not. Samsung phones are no tougher then your z30, it's a piece of glass. Go drop your car window and see if it breaks or not...

As others have said, glass breaks with a fall. Samsung, iPhone, whatever. They all break.

Lol not understating that your upset about cracking your screen, but don't bank on the fact that Samsung displays are much better. My wife broke her display 3 times (always had a case on it) from small drops. This was the gs3. Good luck!

Hey guys, I appreciate the fact that glass breaks when it falls but I guess only on a hard surface. My phone fell on the office floor and it is carpeted through out. I have seen iphone5s and s4 falling and surviving albeit with dents but surely not with a shattered screen. Anyway I have got it changed, looks like I have to buy a rugged phone case now.

I believe the galaxy s4 and s5 can survive drops better because the bezel is slightly raised on the edge of the screen where as the z30 is rounded off meaning the glass will meet the surface face down first. Minor detail but it makes a difference.

A complaint for what? Because it fell on a carpet and cracked the screen? Please man up a bit.
I've seen many other phones fall and survive.

All depends on the angle (which part makes contact first)

Mine broke as well..didnt fall very far and landed on a it's side. The screen spiderwebbed really bad. The killer is that it was in an otterbox. Seems like a waste of $40 for the case.

    This.

I've dropped my naked Z30 face first on tile before and there wasn't a visible scratch. It's mostly luck.

Not sure where you're located, but there are a bunch on eBay and other sites, they'll just run you about twice as much as a black one.

I don't know for your building but in commercial buildings it is often a thin carpet covering the concrete!
