LOL... I don't even know what to say... that's like saying the BMW 335 is not the successor to the BMW 330.

And to @SK122387... the Z10 was released January 2013, the Z30 was released in September. Yes only 8 months apart BUT... What about the Sony Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 and Z3?

    Z: Jan 2013
    Z1: Sept 2013
    Z2: Feb 2014
    Z3 Sept 2014

8 months, then 5 months, then 7 months. What about those phones?

The numbers relate to screen specs and the tier of the device, not to the line of succession. If it did, then the Z10 would somehow be the successor to the later released Z3.

Okay now answer me this. The Sony Xperia line... Z, Z1, Z2, and Z3. What are they? Your logic tells me that they are not successors of each other. They were all released 8 months or less than the previous phone.. WHEN ARE WE GONNA SEE THE SUCCESSOR TO THE SONY XPERIA Z???? It'll be 2 years in January.. WHEN????

I just hope every new phone won't keep increasing in this new numbering thing they have going on. I'm perfectly fine with them refreshing and keeping the current line up.

Catlin do you know something about when this thing will be released? I remember when everyone was getting on you about how you commented about android appstore availability on BB10... I believed!

The Z10 and Z30 were just months apart. They're like cars. The Z10 is a sedan and the Z30 is a bigger sedan with more features. They're sold alongside each other, but eventually each of these will be replaced by similar sedans. The name doesn't matter, but things like size and price do.

The Z10 is smaller, more compact, made out of lighter materials. The Z30 is bigger, wider, taller, made out of heavier more premium materials.

The Z50 will be the successor to the Z30 because it will replace it as the bigger high end touchscreen. If a Z20 came along and was roughly the same size as the Z10, it would be the successor. The Z3 is its own type of big cheap phone, though bigger and newer than the Z10, is still missing many of the Z10's features.
^THIS, is probably the best and most accurate explanation I've read thus far. The comparison to the auto industry is spot on.

And to add to this explanation, think of it this way. Z3 would be considered a Honda Fit, cheaper materials and specs overall. Z10 would be considered a Honda Civic, slightly better then the Fit but not quite premium. Z30 would be considered a Honda Accord, bigger then the civic with a more premium feel. Q5 and Q10 are different Honda Fit and Honda Civic trim classes!

    BlackBerry Passport.....Honda Pilot?! Bahahaha

    Look! It's Zedzilla10! ?
