I have my Z30 linked with my hp desktop, unfortunately I got a virus/malware on my desktop. My question is: can this negatively affect my Z30?

Not directly, but it could corrupt your backup/synced media files, or could scrape your login information for your email service and possibly BBID somehow... which could then indirectly affect your Z30.

I see, luckily I have a friend that's a computer engineer so he is going to remove it ASAP. I just wasn't sure if it could harm my blackberry remotely.

If your friend is a computer engineer, why didn't you ask him

Because he hates blackberry so would most likely give me a bogus response to bust my balls! So I came to where the blackberry experts are!!

Only indirectly. Similarly, if you had a word or text file with your BlackBerry ID info stored in it on your PC, that could also affect it indirectly.

Thanks for the replies I was worried it would affect my phone directly now that it has a virus.

It won't do anything to your Z30, but your Z30 could do harm to another PC or reinfect your PC if you removed the virus already. This would happen if say, the virus affected media files which you then transferred/synced to your Z30 (or any other type of file you put on your phone.. Docs maybe). You can then potentially spread that to other windows machines if that's the case.

If you remove the virus and know its origins were not in any files you transferred to your phone, then it should be ok.

The main positive is that your Z30 should be fine regardless

Just an FYI that you should try to download Malwarebytes anti-malware on your computer (probably need to go into safe mode). There is a free version and I've had good results as well as seen many blogs that say that this seems to work better than antivirus programs in getting rid of these viruses.

    Good luck!

The Z30 can not be infected by any type of Windows based Malware. The BlackBerry OS is Linux based. Malware is not transferable between the two platforms.
