Even though I've got automatic OS updates turned off, my Z30 started to download the update to 10.3.1.1767
Being forced to update to 1767-img_20150316_131824.png
As can be seen from this attached screen shot, I'm being forced to download it because it's a mandatory update! I was waiting to see if bugs had been worked out, and I wanted to do it via Link in any event, since don't have enough space for an OTA update.

Since I'm being forced to do this update, BlackBerry better not screw up my phone !

You do realize that you actually need to press the 'update' button after the update is done downloading in order for it to install right?

You can just not do it, or just not connect to wifi, if you're scared or feel that you're being forced to do something you don't want

Looking at the screen shot it suggests that the phone is going to reboot automatically after the update is installed. Because of this, I'm curious to see if I will have the usual option to install the update after it's been downloaded.

I've got a SIM free Z10 that I did the OTA update on. I like the update a lot, but I'm concerned about the bugs and blank screen issues that have been posted here on CrackBerry

Same thing. It says mandatory update lol. Leave me alone, I have automatic updates turned off....don't waste a GB of my precious Internet plan I don't want.

    Interesting. MANDATORY, huh!

After the botched 'black screen' update of last week, I've made sure to turn off Automatic Update in settings. Not that I have anything to worry about being a Verizon customer - the update will be lucky to arrive by 2016!!!

But I guess one way to forestall such MANDATORY is to crowd the internal memory so that the update canNOT be downloaded! One or two good size videos, a few hundred songs.........

    But good luck.

Yeah, the update is paused because I need to free up another 1.3 gigs. So it can't actually install automatically at the present. I think I'll just hold on and see if the bugs have been worked out of this update by keeping an eye on the CrackBerry forums. I can always update via Link when I'm satisfied that BlackBerry got this update right!

I got the same mandatory update notice. While it is downloading the "cancel" button doesn't work. In my case I was on mobile data at the time so it would not download. Looks like no Wi-Fi for me until I backup my phone first.

Also being forced to install this update, especially after a botched update rollout less than a week ago, does not make me a happy or enthusiastic BlackBerry owner.

    P.S.
This is the screen capture of the update notice I got.

If you want to delay this update, turn off wifi. It won't download. The notification annoyance will probably cause you to update eventually. I'm pretty nervous to update, had a bad experience with Z10 that botched my texting.

I feel your pain, this is soooo true :/

But as I still use some [cough]features[cough] that can't currently be done on 10.3.1, I'ma stickin' with 10.3.0 for now.

I'm just an ordinary consumer of pricy cell service. No features, hot spots, texting, etc. Grandfathered old plan and UNlimited data. I did use that data the other day to grab a Blitz package and Autoloader - that was almost 4gigs right there. Now these new ones. Yes, my cell data is faster than my isp!!!!

Being forced to update to 1767-img_20150316_180344.pngnotice that it says it will will be downloaded and INSTALLED automatically! There's is no option to cancel it once downloaded. And again, as per the screen shot, it will force your phone to restart in 48 hours to make the installation happen! This is very heavy handed.

It is possibly intended to prevent anyone from looking around for Autoloaders or Blitz loaders for the bum OS that Blackens screens.

When you put it that way it does make sense. That being said there is a reason why I wait a week before installing updates.

I think this one was forced down your throat because it contains a security patch for the freak vulnerability.

Quote sources Please. And why was this not mentioned in the update log? A 1.1 gig update to address a security vulnerability? That's not likely.

This seems unlikely to have anything to do with a "security" issue, and more to do with forcing everyone to 10.3.x regardless of individual user issues.

The is a particularly egregious way of doing updates. I'm pissed and I'm going to continue to to let BlackBerry know they screwed up with this method.

I have a Z30 and updated this past weekend. Only minor glitch was some duplicate contacts. Besides that everything is great. I really like the update. Battery life and speed both improved.

This update also fixes the black screen bug for the Z30, that's probably why BlackBerry want you to install it...
