I'm off work so I have time to recover if it fails.

Today is the day I intentionally run the battery dead to see if the screen survives.

Sitting at 39% right now. Wish me luck.

30%. It is harder to drain than the Z10.

Haha yeah it is. Funny how that works, eh? When you just wanna use your phone it feels like the battery can't ever last long enough. When you wanna drain it it feels like nothing can take it on.

I've done it before. I turned the screen to the brightest it would go and turned on all radios such as NFC and Bluetooth. Left it playing YouTube on loop and played music in the background. Took about 2 hours but it eventually turned itself off.

Your a very brave person. Please let us know if it's ok. Bla1ze said that it was fixed. Seems like your the king here. Best of luck.

Well, we are two OS updates since the issue was first brought to light. I can't afford to have this fail on a business trip. Maybe not so much brave as paranoid.

I've had my phone drain all the way to zero and had no problems with it working again once plugged in.

If it doesn't come back on it will take more than a weekend to recover - Mine's been at Blackberry repair center for almost 3 weeks now because of this issue.

Well, the battery finally ran down overnight. This morning the phone will show a red LED, the word "Blackberry" appears on the screen followed by a empty red outline of a battery before going dark. Is this enough of a test or should I continue to let it sit until it is completely unresponsive to pushing the button before recharging?

Don't do that. That might flat line the battery permanently.
    FF22 and BionicKris like this.

Well, about 24 hours after the phone's battery discharged (it was displaying a red LED, BlackBerry would flash on the screen, it would display a red battery outline and shut back off) I plugged it back in, and it came back to life just fine. I don't know if this means the Z30 dead screen problem. Is solved or if I needed to wait until it was totally discharged and unresponsive to the power button.

I would NOT do that - black screen issue or not.

I did a full drain, i.e., to 0% (which is NOT the same as depleting the battery, which is what you're asking/contemplating) on .1581 without issue.

I literally just upgraded to .1784 (frickin' bloody keyboard sounds issue still alive; not well at all!) and won't be able to perform the drain test for the next couple weeks. (I perform a drain once/mth. on all my devices.)

BTW, you will hear the "experts" say due to the newest battery types being used (Li -Ion, -Poly), there is no need to do a full drain. However, a very good write-up on Battery University gives a very compelling reason why you still should.
