I found my apn setting for my phone online. It was inet.bell.ca, so i changed it then turned data "on" and immediately started receiving texts/attachments sent from different people since i got this phone. My question is why would this type of text not have come in when i am home using our wifi connection with data "off"? Why did i have to enable data to receive them?

Texts SMS and MMS cannot be sent nor received over wifi, must be cell. Only exception I know is T-Mo usa due to wifi-calling.

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid i am not very skilled in this type of thing, but regular texts i receive just fine anywhere, anytime with data off. Are you saying any texts with attachments or pics i will have to turn data on to receive them? Thats the MMS type i assume?

Text go out and are received through regular "voice" connection. You do not have to have data on. However, you do need to have cell data on to receive and send MMS ("Multimedia Messaging Service"; yes, with pictures etc.). I believe carriers generally do not charge for MMS data use. Text and MMS won't work on wifi. They will work on T-Mo wifi-calling because the phone uses wifi to connect to cell reception..
