The Z3 and the Leap look very similar and even have similar specs. Is the Z3 just a downgraded version of the Leap?

If so would the Z3 work on North American networks? Wind for example.

It has only 1.5GB RAM. That's barely enough for BB10 and the main reason against it.

i think the answer is simply yes. I have a Z3 and it works on atnt pretty well but a little sluggish at times. I like it better than my Z 30, but today i started on the Z3 and the fight with the crackberry scripting forced me to turn it off and switch phones. so buy one by all means but dont expect it to work on CrackBerry.

in general its a great phone for the price. it was designed for markets other than the US as an affordable price range phone.

1.5 is fine for BB10. I swear the z10 has the same?

Don't swear, because it's not the same. Every other (public) BlackBerry 10 device has at least 2GB of RAM, except the Passport which has 3GB. It might be "fine", but I still think, saving on RAM has always been a bad idea.

The Z3 also only has 8GB internal which can make updating the OS a serious pain, whereas the Leap has 16GB, having used both as well as the Z30, in my opinion the Z3 is a nice phone but it is a "basement" model

    Why BlackBerry? Because I can!

It's not. Since Z3 comes before Leap has been realized. Z3 is Z3.
