Hi guys I saw in earliest build wi-fi direct.

Will 10.3 brings that. Even in apple spec it's not mentioned but air drop doe's that atleast within apple products.

I still can't get this in my new phone came from xperia s.

Hi ulaganathk and welcome to the CrackBerry community !

I'm confused about two things :

1/ 10.3 is far on the roadmap (not spotted yet) and wifi direct is there already in the 10.2 version.
2/ You mention apple's products, then you might referring to Miracast ?
But Z10 cannot handle that, due to hardware limitations (if I remember correctly, Q10 and Z30 can).

See Bla1ze's blog article about that for related informations : Miracast will not be available on the BlackBerry Z10, Wi-Fi Direct supported instead | CrackBerry.com

    Cheers,

Hi guys thanks for the reply. My point is miracast is too far on application wise. I know its screen sharing feature but not much of use if you have high end tv , car etc.

But wif-direct is welcome feature say i have gb of file i need to share i cant do via bluetooth even with 4.0 its limited to max 1mb but with wifi direct i can go atleast 5-8mb depends on wifi spec which is 5 time faster.

Not much of use other than huge file sharing across platforms with that feature enabled.

As far apple functionality i mention not miracast its wifi direct but limited to apple phones and tablet alone not any other brand it can drop a picture or video over wifi via bluetooth which intiated a peer to peer setup.

Nope, wifi direct IS supported on Z10. Miracast isn't (see Bla1ze blog I posted above)

That is DLNA and not miracast or wifi direct.

The Z10 was supposed to get Wi-Fi Direct back when it was first announced (Miracast was never mentioned).

Something changed along the way and then we were told that it won't even get that.

My son's Galaxy S2 has it and is an older device by almost 2 years. I can't believe that the Z10 couldn't get the hardware for it.

I'm thinking it does have it, just that BlackBerry chose to not implement it through the OS.

    Unless it's chip related.

You are correct. Unfortunately wi-fi direct will not come to the Z10. BlackBerry 10.2 has wifi direct and miracast already enabled for compatible devices. If you open the wifi settings you'll notice it right away.

Here is a screenshot from my Q10.

    Z10 Wifi Direct Function-img_20140114_171553.png

On my Z10 I only have the regular wifi networks visible. Both the Z10 and Q10 have 10.2.1.1925, DLNA is supported on all BlackBerry 10 devices though.

No problem lol. I envy you for using the 30.. I have spent all of my money to buy my Z10.. and now the price of Z10 is less than 2/3 than when I bought it. I regretted a little bit for jumping too early to BlackBerry 10. Z10 users miss many features of BlackBerry 10. USB OTG, miracast, wifi direct, FM radio..

Correct. Funny thing is that the STL100-1 Z10 variant actually does support Miracast and Wi-Fi direct but because the Snapdragon based Z10 SKU's don't, BlackBerry has chosen to disable the feature from all Z10's.

Another instance of this happening is with the PlayBook and NEON.

Yes, I have heard about that too. It's a shame. I wonder if it's true? If it is, the decision maker at BlackBerry design is surely shortsighted.

It's the wi-fi chipset they decided to use. It's an older model on the LTE Z10 units.

I too am disappointed the Z10 won't have wifi direct as previously had been "indicated".

    Oh well...

    However, some good news...

I just turned on my Panasonic Blu-ray Disc player and it had a firmware update. Loaded it. Then I thought maybe the DLNA connection will work now. And lo and behold it does.

Before now I was frustrated cuz the BD player had the DLNA logo but wouldn't recognize my Z10. (The Z30 in the house showed up fine!)

As soon as the update was finished, it worked just fine.

A word to others: don't forget to "allow" the other device...
    Settings/MediaSharing/Devices...
Make sure the BD player is checked. My Panasonic only shows up with its IP address... you can get that from the player itself under settings.
