i woke up from a nap earlier today to find my z10 dead and with zero battery even though it was plugged in.

    quick facts:
    - phone has no battery life
    - when plugged to oem wall charger phone will power on, show blackberry logo, revert to big battery charging image
    - no change to this status even when left for a few hours
    - when connected to pc via usb, windows detects device but bb link does not detect or connect
    - no spare battery to test, but i get the feeling its not a battery issue
    - tried this. Step 7 doesn't happen for me.

is the phone dead? any ideas?

    thanks

today i confirmed that it is the phone itself.

i tried my friend's z10 battery in my phone with the same results and my thought to be dead battery worked fine in his z10.

now that i know this what would you suggest i do?

I suggest you try to reload the OS again without the battery.. your only hope.. I suspect software.. if it's hardware.. you should get it changed if it's still under warranty

How to Reload the Operating System on a Nuked or Bricked BlackBerry | CrackBerry.com this?

before I do that, I've already downloaded the auto loader for 10.3.xxx. Is it better, worse, or no different to try this first?

    follow up:

the link I posted above regarding reloading OS without battery is an old article. apploader is no longer around.

second, when I tried running autoloader 10.3.xxx it only successfully detected my phone when the battery was out but after the .exe finished running and my phone restarted it got stuck in the same pattern of logo --> dead battery logo

can anyone offer detailed advice that I could try before Im forced to dump the phone?

Sounds dead to me but I'd try loading 10.2 before laying it to rest

Are you saying "same result"? So, the phone still won't restart and provide a home screen.

try using a different USB charger. I find my old Nokia charger charges the phone a lot better than the original one

Hmmmm.. I still don't think the phone is dead.. is your link updated??
Try going back to 10.2 first
And for your OS please install the correct z10 OS.. there are many types of z10..

I ran the SIC wipe and load to wipe my phone. after this my phone still wouldn't turn on with the battery in, but my computer was able to detect it with battery in, which wasn't possible before. while connected to link I allowed it to reinstall 10.2 after which it would still not boot after the restart. forever stuck on the dead battery image.

what are the typical indicators that its a software/hardware issue? is the fact that it can connect to the pc a sign that the hardware itself is fine?

You might try charging with a different adapter or try another battery (friend, from a store - just as a test).

Hmmmm. When you installing the Os it's with battery or without??

Anyways.. try another new battery and slot it to your z10 and see what happens.. might be your battery problem...

You know you can plug your z10 to your computer without your battery right!??

thanks for the input guys. i did notice that the LED is solid green when doing something with the computer. no problems there.

i was only able to connect my phone to SIC with the battery out. after it was wiped i reinserted the battery and tried to power on. nothing. not even when i plugged to a charger.

the silver lining was that Link was about to detect the phone WITH the battery in, which it was previously wasn't able to do. From there i reinstalled 10.2 but when the phone restarted it went back to the same problem: blackberry logo then dead battery image.

also i already tried another battery. no luck. and i tested my battery in another z10. it worked. so its not a battery problem unfortunately.

i searched CB extensively and i haven't found another phone behaving this way. i just wish there was a diagnostic test or a greater knowledge base so i can figure out what is the problem. i'm taking the phone to a repair shop tomorrow, but im not expecting them to know much.

Btw.. just to check.. please ensure your charger is also in proper working order might be the plug or the wire connecting to your phone that's not charging your battery
