When using the phone as a handset, the phone almost always goes into mute from rubbing against my face. I believe the mute button is poorly placed. Bad design.

I do hope Blackberry can incorporate a change.

Really? I have never experienced that. I think the screen becomes unresponsive whenever you put your phone on your ear.

I have to be conscious of not letting the phone touch my face while on a call. At first I thought the signal was dropping because the other party couldn't hear me, then I realized the phone was muting. Poor placement of the mute button...

When my phone goes by my head the screen turns off via the built in sensor. So this doesn't effect me.

I don't know why this isn't happening to you. Are you a ghost perhaps?

That is weird because my screen turns off whenever I put it near my face and I never accidentally press anything. I was even thinking the other day that this was the best experience I've had with a phone not pressing the mute button when I put it to my ear.... maybe there's a setting for that that is deactivated on your phone? because it is weird that our experiences are soo different.

Are you one of those people that pull your phone from your ear when listening, to your mouth when talking, then back?

Be sure youre holding the entire top half of the phone to your face. The proximity sensor will disable the screen and alobg with it, the mute button.

Source: used to sell phones, people dont usually use the proximity sensor correctly

No, I hold the phone conventionally. And yes the screen does turn off when up to my ear. It's possible I'm activating the mute before the phone has a chance to turn off.

If its a big issue, id get it replaced in store.
If its been over 30 days, your carrier should still have a warranty process...
