Default Z10 Love it and Hate it. Should have waited

My thoughts re the Z10, why I love it and why I hate it.

The Z10 is a perfect cloud machine. I can sync Google, Hotmail and my POP3 emails and of course my calendars. My contacts and Calendars are now all in the cloud. I use Dropbox for my files, so have instant access to all my PC data, word files and excel. I use Hotmail tasks for my "Todo" list, this syncs with the Remember app on the phone. I have a Box account as well, so I soon as I take a picture this sync instantly (with connection) with Box. Now if I lose the phone who cares. I wipe the phone over the net and reinstall everything on a new Z10 in minutes. This is brilliant. A perfect machine you would think, but as a serious business tool when I am out and about everyday I am not so sure, here's why:

I visit clients and my appointments are in my diary/calendar. When adding a phone number into the body of an appointment in the Calendar app you cannot tap the phone number to call the number. If there is a gap in the phone number its not straight forward to copy the number which is a real nuisance. If you do eventually copy the number you realise you wasted your time because you cannot paste the phone number into the dialling pad. How absurd is this? While I am out, I can have the phone number in my appointment but now I need a piece of paper to write down the phone number so I can manually enter the phone number into the dialling pad. How absolutely absurd is that? Who on earth didn't think of that? Maybe Blackberry designers can remember 11 digit phone numbers.

When an email fails to send, there is no resend now option. I am a busy person. If I write an email on a phone and it fails to send I want to try to resend it immediately. How mad that you have to wait. From my experience I have waited until the next day for a failed message to send. What on earth were they thinking.

Now I want to quickly send a text message, there is a specific app on the main screen for that but if you open the app it does not go straight to the text message app, it opens the Blackberry hub and puts you where you left off in the hub. Whats the point of that, I went to text message app for a reason. Open the app!

Now the calculator, what on earth happened to the percentage button!!! Are all blackberry designers mathematicians, perhaps they can work out the most commonly used function in the UK business world, i.e VAT, in their head.

Now making a call, if you left the phone in any position other than in the home screen it now takes three actions/touches to get the dial pad. Its a phone for gods sake. Surely you should not have to carry out three actions to make a call.

Now the typing, I accept I am not used to a touch screen but god its a struggle sometimes to highlight the exact section you want or place the cursor exactly where you need to make a correction. Especially if you want to edit something quickly in a long email.

Dont get me wrong I love the Z10 but these basic functions make me think that my bold is just so easy to use for every day business functions!! Looks like I will be getting another contract when the G10 comes out!!

The text message app seems to be a shortcut to the hub only.

    This gotta be fixed .

Placing the cursor: I too can't place the cursor where I want. BUT - all I have to do then is to move that cursor to exactly where I want - on my Playbook. I assume that will work with Z10?

Very reasonable, i agree with it all...small details which should have been taken for granted, yet it's not there...battery percentage, resend, etc. hope it gets fixed soon, all these small things have to be addressed before US launch or all **** break loose. Apps can wait but functionality is most important.

Very very good points for daily usage!

But I don't think the Q10 will solve above problems Q10 does not have the trackpad to help you move the cursor exactly ; or any physical call/end button. Other issues might just be software related and can be fixed with coming updates.

    Great post again

I use the local calendar on my Z10 (no need for sync) and the few times that had to enter a phone number, I put them in the "Notes" section of my appointments. I just went back and tried to call the numbers and it works perfectly by just pressing on them.

This was a much better Z10 beef thread. At least you're not pulling a hissy fit because its not living up to all your expectations right out of the box.
These issues will obviously be addressed with upcoming software releases. Hopefully.
It is funny that with all the problems I've heard thus far, I haven't had one problem that comes minutely close to making me regret the acquisition of my Z10.
Hopefully your problems will be resolved soon or you find an adequate work-around.

I took a look at the calculator and I was surprised it really doesn't have a % key. That is quite odd.
You can get percentage calculations if you swipe down from the top of the screen, though. There is a tip calculator that calculates percentages. Hope that helps.

Touch the screen until the bubble appears and then move the bubble to position the cursor.

Marking text for deletion requires pressing on the screen and moving the highlight indicators, and then pressing the screen until the menu appears to the right to select the scissors.

Works for me when I enter a phone number in the notes, reminder, status section of the appointment.

I put the phone number in the location field for conference calls. Works great and is pretty consistent and common practice. Clicking phone number in location field in iPhone used to do nothing; now recognized since a relatively recent update. On my S3, clicking on phone number in location field launches Google maps and tries to search the number as a set of coordinates... no phone is perfect

Cant remember the phone number, tap voice command and just speak the number to call. no copy, paste, remember, writing anything down. One button push.

I was also frustrated with the hub thing you're speaking of. After a few days it all made sense. Think about it, when you return to the hub you want it to stay on the last task that you were on. This is for when you are having an on going conversation while doing other tasks. I find if I'm done with an email, text etc, I just swipe up while in the Hub and leave it on the hub table of contents screen. Much easier when the next notification comes in. I also go into hub settings and turn off all notifications in hub menu. It's much easier just to have them separated in different hub folders.

Edit: sorry, by the time I read this whole thread, I totally screwed up what you were complaining about with text messages. Anyway, you can still take advise from my first reply. Always leave hub with table of contents screen on display. I'm sure they will address with first update.

In your calendar, enter the phone number under notes and you CAN (and I have done this) dial from the appointment notes.

Tl;dr but if you think of the circle that pops up when selecting text as a joy stick it helps. Tap left on the circle to move it left, tap the top ti move up etc.

Also for highlighting tap and hold. Keep holding and more is selected. (this may be for browser only)

You have to turn your phone and view the calculator in landscape mode...turns the calculator into a scientific one then and all your symbols are there.

Or multiply by your desired percentage expressed as a decimal. Example 20% = .20

G10? you mean Q10? non-the-less, even on keyboard BB10 phones, it would still have to take 3 steps to get to the dial pad because it lost the dedicated call buttons from BB7s and below
