    I broke down and switched to the Business account because I needed the sync. There are instructions out there and there are also people who get frustrated. I think I figured out the problem.

    You need to set up the account on your device for Exchange Active Sync.

    After you get all the info in, it will try to poll the Google Mothership and give a 403 error.

    That's because the device is not approved on the mothership's control panel.

    Go to the Google apps control panel. Click Settings, then select mobile. The device that's trying to poll should show up in the "Activation" section of mobile. Click the check box, then click "approve".

    Now, back to the device. Tell it to log in again and this time it should work. I have found that it takes a while to do a full sync of my very large address book. I started around 11 and it's still not done.

    But the Active Sync is working great for email.
