I recently purchased Dead Space and after playing it for 15 minutes it felt like I was holding a freshly brewed cup of coffee! It was so hot and it got me worried. Is it safe to keep playing this game or should I just play it on my PlayBook, which doesn't have this problem.

Most of my games run only warm, but another game that gets my Z10 really hot is Where's My Water?, which is strange since it's a really simple game.

Is it bad for my phone to play these games?

When I play N.O.V.A. My Z10 gets hot as well. Just all the hardware doing the job. It's the same in all smartphones these days. My Galaxy Nexus used to get hot too.

Essentially you're holding a small computer without a fan, in your hand. It's going to heat up when the processors get maxed out.

So it's normal but does that mean it won't damage the phone in the long term?

It's just a natural process for the phones due to the cores at work. It's like when you run fast you start to sweat and then you cool down when you take rest. Just the way it is.

It's normal for it to get very warm, especially when playing graphic intensive games. Of course, there's a limit to how much heat the device can withstand, but you probably won't reach that limit very easily. You'd have to be playing an intensive game, all while having the sun beat down on it at noon for at least a while, mixed in with some gps action. Just a ball park I guess lol. Disclaimer: it may happen sooner!

Yes that's very true. Touch the back of a TV when it's on for a while and it's rather warm. They don't have fans either. Computers in general generate heat, so they have fans to cool them, as do gaming consoles. Smartphones are like little computers without the fan because they don't get as hot as the former just yet.
