Z10 camera macro shots.
Here's a couple of pictures taken in macro mode on the Z10 with a little help from PicShop.
To give you an idea of scale, each fly is 3/8 inch long.
The file size may be a bit too big to show the full clarity of these pics, I should have saved to a smaller size for the Web.
I'm really pleased with the camera. - 03-30-2013, 11:25 PM #5
More macro shots Took this picture with my Z10 !

Also, as he says: "Took the last two pictures 4 days ago with the 4:9 setting in the camera! If you switch the ratio to that, the Z10 will use all of the 8 MP available, if you're on the 16:9, change it now! because 16:9 = 6 MP only!" - 03-31-2013, 09:31 AM #6
Has anyone else seen better shots in 4:9?

I have used the Z10 camera for closeups. It works very well for a phone camera. I am surprised at the quality of its camera for what it is. I have photographed documents, and pages from service manuals for reference. I have also emailed photos of business cards.
I take a closeup picture, and then do a crop and zoom using Windows Paint. I then import the picture in to MS Word and add my text along with the picture, and then adjust the picture to properly fit the document.Jerry G.

The Z10 really needs a dedicated macro mode that encourages the contrast detection autofocus to attempt to focus on the nearest object. I find that even when a subject nearly or completely fills the visible autofocus box, the camera has a tendency to focus on the background, even when the subject is well within the Minimum Focus Distance (MFD). This minor software change would be a huge boon for macro photography.
The first image is a 100% crop (no editing of any sort). You can see some noise reduction evident even in ~EV11 conditions, there are sharpening artifacts and halos, etc. Still, for a cellphone camera, it's quite adequate.

The second picture is after some minor editing.

The third picture indicates how small of a crop the finished product is.

I would honestly like to see a RAW mode or at least an unprocessed .JPG option- the camera is actually pretty good, but the pics are a bit overprocessed to allow for immediate sharing, which makes post processing more difficult than it should be. - 04-25-2013, 12:54 PM #13
Haven't really tried the camera that much yet. Here's an uninspired low-light macro shot of my keyboard I just took.

4:3 also seems to keep the pictures in the orientation that you took them. Taking a 16:9 picture in portrait seems to auto-rotate to landscape when you transfer to a computer. At least that's what I've found so far.
