I noticed a lot of "Professional" reviewers kinda hated on the z10 camera.

I don't understand, it takes nice shots and it's simple to use. Just wait for the green square to focus and tap to take a shot.

"Professional" reviewers are creatures of habit. If something functions slightly different than another they flip out and call it the worst thing in the world.

I personally am impressed with the camera.. especially considering this is BB and cameras have been one of their weakest points in the past.

Never thought I'd be doing this. Pinch to Zoom was present on the iPhone 4. For whatever reason, Apple removed it on later devices.

Got to say that I totally agree. I was expecting it to kind of suck but it's great just as good if not better than the galaxy S3.

I'm just use to the Iphone 5 camera and it is better than the Z10 period. Although I don't mind the Z10's camera at all. It does well enough.

They are NOT "Professionals" in photography.
Here is the real deal, done professionally: DxOMark - Mobiles
The Z10 is among the top phones. No point in splitting hairs in terms of image quality in this class of cameras.

    My 5c worth

With a f2.2 vs iPhone 5's f2.5 and both having a similar 5 element lens and 8MP sensor, it is down to the software. It took Apple years to get to iOS 6, to drive the camera.

Wait till OS 10.1 on Blackberry. With ISO control updated and a few other tweak between 10.0.9 and 10.0.10, the camera grew by leaps and bounds.

My Blog has lots BlackBerry images that made Apple Fanboys run with their tails tucked...

It isn't the best mobile camera I've seen, but it's still pretty good compared to the BlackBerry cameras that came before it.

Yes, I would pretty much agree. Hardware is the same so it come down to software integration. Having examined many pictures from various phones, the lumina 920 appears to work the best, followed by the Z10, the iPhone5 and then the Samsung S3. As to the iPhone5, it has a tendency to generate overexposed shots with a flat appearance and reduced color definition. Phone cameras are handy but they will never replace a proper digital camera, end of story.

As to the Z10 hate, it comes from fanboys who are starting to understand that the current phone is not competitive with BB10. It is a tough one to swallow but denial is natural. On the positive side, once they get past denial, they become a potential Z10 customer.

Didn't realise that this is no longer available on the newer iPhones. Is this feature still available on the newer Samsung Galaxy and Note? (NB: BBRY, you better keep this pinch to zoom feature then)

The camera itself is very good for a mobile phone camera. It is one of the better ones when it comes to taking pictures. What the pros like is to have the extra options to be able to control the camera with more manual control.

As for myself, I took some excellent photos with the Z10. For simple picture taking this phone does a super deluxe job at it.

The Z10 camera is really an automatic camera with a few selectable features and options. For an example, the macro mode is automatic. If you want to take a closeup picture this camera will do it without even indicating it is in the macro mode. It does a good job at it.

I also have a 9900. The 9900 is a very good camera but for taking pictures at more than 4 feet from the camera lens. In low light the 9900 camera under performs most of the other smart phone cameras. For closeups it is not very good. I have used it down to 2 feet under bright light, but with poorer results than other Blackberry phone cameras.

There are some complaints about the Z10 camera as far as versatility is concerned. What is missing is to be able to manually control the color balance. Normally the digital cameras allow to manually set the modes for 2700K, 3200K, 4200K, 5600K, 6800K, and 9200K just to mention an example of color balance range. They also have features for B&W, and to change the color saturation. Some also have modes to emulate different film types, have modes for night, snow scenes, group photo exposure, portrait exposure, and etc. Some other features are adjustable ASA or DIN for sensitivity, a manual macro mode, defined manual zoom range, defined and manual focus, just to mention a few options. The higher end cameras allow for manual color balance to override the auto color balance.

    Good morning/afternoon

All the photos under the Portfolio section were taken and mostly edited on the Z10 itself.... that is why I love the camera on the Z10 so much!

Have a look at the Portfolio - Creatography Labs section

All pictures taken with Z10... on my Blog section I have some pictures taken with my Nikon 1 J1

Hints and tips.... look for an image that you feel might either tell a story, or has interesting light... mid day is a terrible time to shoot... but to early or to late and the light is to low for a small camera like this... so 30min after sunset, 30 before sundown, or during the day when you can look for some play of light and shadows to create shapes and contrasts

Looking to buy a Canon D6 one day when I can afford it... ( might be in my next life )

But having fun non the less... ( So if any Person feels they would like to sponsor a struggling artist from South Africa - with any form of Real SLR I will share any profit I make with you gladly )
