So I went out with my wife for a Friday night movie to see "The Best Man Holiday." During the movie, one of the characters made mention of another character "living on her BlackBerry" as she was a big time TV executive. This caught my attention.

As the movie played along, several characters were using their cell phones to make calls, send texts, take pictures, etc. While watching this, I immediately noticed the similarities in the phones they were using. It was none other than our very own BlackBerry Z10!!! And multiple characters were using them!!!

I must say, it was quite refreshing to see BB OS 10 devices being featured in a major motion picture.

    Keep the momentum going BBRY!!!

Probably because BlackBerry paid them and gave them lifetime free upgrades if they give the phone screen time.

In other words, BlackBerry begged for product placement.

In all movies and TV shows product placement costs money. So if you see let's say a pepsi can in a show. That means pepsi paid the show for their products to be shown.

I saw the movie yesterday, and I don't believe BlackBerry paid for the placement. The name on the front & the logo on the back were both covered, so there was nothing promoting BlackBerry. Only a current owner or an enthusiast would recognize that it's a Z10.

As a Z10 owner & a BlackBerry enthusiast, I was pretty proud anyway!

Product placement is one of the key marketing strategies. It is about time BlackBerry starts something like this. Prior to the holiday season too. Unfortunately, the phone will not be in the stores for direct purchase.

This is nothing new. Ad. agencies have huge departments set up to provide products discreetly on the screen. It's been going on for decades.

In the 60s the sitcoms featured vehicles and appliances from different manufacturers.

Dodge spent millions of dollars to showcase their new Ram pickup in the blockbuster "Twister" two decades ago.

There are tons of sites online that keep track and outline the placements in various movies. It would be tough to find a current movie that doesn't have placements. The trick is to do product placements in movies not set in the present but rather in historical times.

That's what I'm saying. Even Microsoft do product placement. And their windows products are littered in Arrow.
