Yes it is. For areas that support it, it's LTE. However, unless you are consistently in an LTE area, it's probably a good idea to keep it at 4G. Looking for an LTE signal and not finding it drains the battery very quickly.

You might want to note that not all z10 support LTE. STL 100-1 version support up to H+ or so called 3.5G or sometimes 4G. Correct me if I'm wrong

your correct. the simplest way to tell if your device is a -1, is the battery terminals will be at the bottom, on the other devices they are on the top.
However if you have the device powered up, settings>about>model number section on the general page will also say.

Thanks for that As I had the leak 10.2 installed it's set to 4 g but 4g is not available here yet so could be why my battery is draining

Yeah, and the sim card slot for -1 is right on the upper part of the device, unlike other version which is on the lower part.

I have turned on all Network Modes (LTE, 4G/3G, 2G), but mine seems to only receive 2G in my area (Orange County, Southern California). I have an unlocked STL100-2 model with a T-Mobile sim. Don't know why...!

If you REALLY want to be technical, no BlackBerry 10 device, Z10 or Q10 or Q5 has true 4G capabilities. It really depends on who's definition of 4G you follow.

You have the wrong phone with the wrong frequencies, that's why... you need an STL100-3

I thought an unlocked STL100-2 phone bought in the UK would also be compatible with the US frequencies in the LTE or 4G Mode. Looks like I was wrong. I will have to watch out for that when I get the Z30!

Technically true 4G (fourth generation of mobile networks) is LTE-A or better known as LTE advanced.

LTE itself is 4G. LTE max or advanced is 4.5.

Was there someone who said otherwise?

    I think it's hilarious that 4G is actually 3.5G

LTE Max is still LTE, it's kind of tricky to figure out all this terminology but a nice (but probably not the best) analogy would be 3G, 3.5G and 3.75G. Here is an explanation which might be easier to understand or interpret.

    What is LTE Advanced?

LTE standards are in matured state now with release 8 frozen. While LTE Advanced is still under works. Often the LTE standard is seen as 4G standard which is not true. 3.9G is more acceptable for LTE. So why it is not 4G? Answer is quite simple - LTE does not fulfill all requirements of ITU 4G definition.

Brief History of LTE Advanced: The ITU has introduced the term IMT Advanced to identify mobile systems whose capabilities go beyond those of IMT 2000. The IMT Advanced systems shall provide best-in-class performance attributes such as peak and sustained data rates and corresponding spectral efficiencies, capacity, latency, overall network complexity and quality-of-service management. The new capabilities of these IMT-Advanced systems are envisaged to handle a wide range of supported data rates with target peak data rates of up to approximately 100 Mbit/s for high mobility and up to approximately 1 Gbit/s for low mobility.

not only that but it has to be LTE-A deployed with at least 3x20+20 MHz carriers on 8x8 MIMO to meet the requirements. that won't realistically be deployed anywhere in the world.

4G actually doesn't exist at all. it's not a standard or set of recommendations. IMT-Advanced is and for some bizarre reason people took to assigning the term 4G to IMT-Advanced.

nothing currently deployed anywhere meets the performance targets of IMT-Advanced and due to the high number of antenna (which is expansive) or carriers / spectrum (which is expensive) its unlikely that there ever will be a deployment that meets all the requirements of IMT-Advanced.

funny you should say that. unlike other phones, iPhones just say "LTE" rather than "4G" or "4GLTE" when on an LTE network.

Same for my Z10 on AT&T. It only indicates "LTE" without the 4G.

I have yet to venture far enough away from the coverage area to see what it shows when it drops to H+.

I get a chuckle how a completely non metric set of requirement gets assigned a completely metric number. "3.5G"? why not 3.51632215467G?

And let's not forget that the ITU acquiesced to AT&T and T-Mobile and allowed HSPA+, an expansion of the 3G technology, to be called "4G", even though it never intended to.
