The YouTube app is really just a link to the mobile website of YouTube. I find the quality of the videos to be very poor. Blurry as all get out. Anyway, I put a link on my desktop to the regular site. Is there any way I can use the YouTube icon that is used on the link to the mobile website instead of having the browser image that these links default to?

Agreed. The YouTube application, if we can call it an application, won't play many of the videos which normally playback perfectly on a desktop web browser. On the BlackBerry PlayBook I resorted to installing Vemo.

If a video won't play then switch to desktop mode.

Silly question but is your 'HQ' button pressed when viewing the video? By default it always turns off to save excessive data usage.

As much as I hate the fact that we have no youtube app, I have to disagree with this. Even on the official youtube app on Android and iOS, certain videos are unavailable. Youtube gives the publishers a right whether they want their vids available on mobile or not (whether the mobile web or the Android/iOS apps) and some choose not to enable mobile viewing.

Launch the YouTube app (mobile view), click on a video, before pressing play you should see a HQ button next to the 'like & dislike ' buttons

Hey, guys. Don't know if this is only for the US, but check out this app: BlackBerry World - FastTube- Ultimate YouTube browser for BlackBerry 10

It's a native Youtube interface. It has really good potential. Unfortunately it doesn't have a login feature and it opens up the video in a separate video active frame. Hopefully the developer can add a login feature in the next release and allow the video layer to be open in the app itself.

    Hope that helps.

I tested this, here was my findings...

YouTube 'shortcut' app (Mobile site) = 720p* is the maximum quality with HQ selected even if 1080p is available.

FYI My connection is more than fast enough for 1080p.

    * Might be even lower quality for others depending on connection speed.

YouTube website (Full desktop site) = 1080p when available and selected.

YouTube android app (Sideloaded) = 1080p is the quality used when available with HD selected.

Doesn't matter if you are viewing 720p or 1080p video on the Zed Ten. The screen will always render at 720p (native resolution) .

1080p is a waste of bandwidth until the "Play on..." feature gets implemented for the YouTube app.

No one appears to be answering your question!
I have not found a way to change the icon on a bookmarked page. Hopefully we can. Anyone?

Maybe it's just me but the video quality on the z10 for YouTube, even on hq setting, still seems poor. Not unwatchable. But still poor.

The Z10 can record a video in 1080p, and output a video in 1080p to an outside source, but will not be able to display a 1080p video on the phone screen itself.

    The Z10's screen resolution is 1280 x 768 resolution, a 1080p resolution is 19201080.

So that is why when you try to watch a 1080p video, you are actually watching it on the phone in 720p due to the phone's screen resolution limitation.
