- So, much of the disappointment seems to be the 1st world problems of Americans?
People in the USA are not getting the device late. It's just that the rest of us are getting the device (very) early. 4 weeks isn't long to wait. How long did it take for Nokia to release their Lumia #20s after they opened the curtains?01-30-13 07:39 PMLike 0 - I'm Canadian - so no dissapointment here. But we also have Koodo selling the phone for 550 off contract or 400 off contract with a 150 Koodo tab.
We also have rogers selling 139 on monthly contracts if your a "wanting to be chained to a carrier" type person.
But me, I couldn't be happier. If I was american, I'd be happy too I'd just be getting one shipped from up north.
Edit: in terms of features it has everything I want and works exactly as I expect it to. So again, not disappointed. But I'm not exactly Y Generation either.
Sent from my BlackBerry Veedu using Tapatalk 301-30-13 07:42 PMLike 0 - As I haven't used the software yet, I can't say anything about it yet. From what I've seen though, it looks pretty good. BlackBerry specific features that have been stated to be missing remain to be seen.
My disappointment comes directly from the design of the Q10, which is the device that I was waiting for because I want to go back to a physical QWERTY device. (FYI - I've been an iPhone owner for 2 years now). I think that BlackBerry really missed the chance to launch amazing QWERTY flagship device. They could have released a device with the exact same width as the Q10 but just make the screen a bit taller. I want my QWERTY device to have the keyboard always present and accessible like on the 9900 but I also want decent screen real estate. Some would suggest a torch-slider design but I hate having to constantly slide the device every time I want to type something and most people go with a slider because they want a physical QWERTY and they want a big screen.
A Q10 with a taller screen would have been the ultimate device to satisfy both users. Given the interviews done after the event, BlackBerry is sticking with it's resolutions for future all-touch devices and it's QWERTY devices so now I am not confident about future device releases. I am willing to settle though and get a slider device if they make it.01-30-13 07:42 PMLike 0 - Yea its pretty impressive how crazy people can get over situations. I don't believe rim is delivering bb10 late. They said it would be launched today..not bb10 will be available today from your local carrier. Regardless of when a phone is released something about it will obsolete..or close to becoming old news..that's technology. The flagship market is the same across the board with high res. Screens 1gb-2gb of ram and the cpu has been about the same...only differance is lte and phone size. They hype about rim being to late is crazy to me. But at the end of the day..if you don't like what you see or hear don't buy..pretty simple solution.
The prettiest women carry the darkest secrets01-30-13 07:44 PMLike 0 - Why am I disappointed:
1. All the hype about how great and efficient QNX is, the final reviews show it to be average for performance and battery life is mediocre. The hardware is over 6 months old so the phone actually benchmarks poorly against the iPhone 5 and Nexus 4.
2. The gestures require a larger bezel making the phone large for its screen size.
3. Reviews state that apps are buggy and don't have all the features that they do on other platforms.
Yes I am likely getting on next week but not excited about it.01-30-13 07:52 PMLike 0 - The hardware is 6 months old? Every "new" phone that has been released in the past year has had nearly the same design. A "black" slab with a screen and front facing camera. As for proformance its hard to judge seeing how every carrier and wifi network will very...plus apps and certain os's will also hinder the proformance of a phone. As for apps sure that will be a deal breaker for a lot of people..but if that's your cup of tea android and ios handles apps very well with a large selection. But buying a phone when your not completely happy about it..is just crazy to me

- The lack of notification customization and the disappearance of a useable bedside mode is a serious, serious disappointment for me. Yeah, it is not a deal breaker for me, but it is close. While this may sound melodramatic and like hyperbole, hear me out.
I love my 9900, and my reasoning is what BB executives have repeatedly said time and time again - it is the best communication device out there. I own my own business and, thus, the most valuable attributes I look for in a phone relate to email and call quality. Over time, I have turned into quite the loyal BB user. To use a sports analogy, they are my team and I want to see them succeed.
Thus, like most over-the-top sports fans, I have had a hard time watching BB's management stumble their way to the BB10 start line. I honestly lost a lot of faith in the people steering BB for a while. In short, there were times where it seemed like I was hoping-against-hope that BB10 would arrive in a timely, refined manner. My opinion had changed over the past 6 months or so, especially with how Kevin would talk about how the mood and vibe at BB had changed and how this was a new and focused company.
So, earlier today when I read Kevin's review, I had to read the section about the notifications/bed side a couple of times. I had another one of those "WTF BB??" moments that I thought and hoped were a long gone feeling. I just assumed that those features that are consistently talked about by hardcore BB devotees would be in the new operating system from the get-go. I never considered the possibility that they would not be there.
So, yeah, while I can be accused of being melodramatic about something like this, these features' lacking caused me to have another moment where I was shaking my head at BB's management and wondering just what they were thinking when they decided to remove something that I really and truly love about my current BB.01-30-13 08:12 PMLike 5 -
Disappointed or not, I'll decide for myself when I get to use the Z10 personally. Reviews should be taken with a grain of salt because most of the time I end up being happy with my choice despite what reviewers say.
I'll be getting two Z10 next week - a white for my parents and a black for myself. I'm usually not an early adopter but I'm confident enough with this OS to take this chance. There'll always be bugs, no matter how young or old the OS is, and with that there will always be updates to fix the bugs. And I'm fine with that.Last edited by DuexNoir; 01-30-13 at 09:32 PM.
01-30-13 09:08 PMLike 0 - I am disappointed not because of RIM but because of the carriers. I know better than to blame BlackBerry for it but the vast majority isn't.the less than stellar reviews don't help either. I guess the silver lining is that I'm still 5,000 dollars in the black. I will be selling first thing tomorrow but I will keep my eye on our friends in Waterloo however I'm not too optimistic but I do wish them the best. It's such a damn SHAME, they had everything going for them but today was just same old BlackBerry.01-30-13 09:15 PMLike 0

And, dare I say it... I not sold on the flow and hub thing. Not sure I like all my messages together. I know you can swipe again to the left and expose the underlying folders.
I want to feel different vibration patterns, alerts and LED lights to know if I got an email, txt, BBM, FB message or Twitter message.
Maybe there will be a BerrzBuzz type app. I hope so.
Otherwise it's a nice device with some good features, but many that are lacking. At the end of the day, consumers will decide. I've been a BB fan boy at work in the midst of a lot of ridicule among friends, family and colleagues at work. I want to want a cool Blackberry, and would suffer a lot of sh!t from others if I switched. If my Bold died today and I had to choose between the S3 and the Z10 - I'd go with the S3. Hoping that in the next couple months before it's available in the States some of the niggling issues will be resolved. By then of course, the S4 launch will be upon us. It's going to be a hard choice.01-30-13 09:27 PMLike 0 - That's odd, 1/2 the pre-orders are from non Blackberry users, so obviously iphone/droid users have said wow.
Funny how math works better than opinions.

What more proof do you want? And it was started months back. The real question should be, why can't the US carriers get this done as quickly as the rest of the world?01-30-13 10:06 PMLike 0
- Tons and tons of $$ adverts coming, no worrIes there.
Like the fact that our Blackberry Alicia Keys is singing at Super Bowl and Blackberry commercial at same, go figure.
01-30-13 10:27 PMLike 0 - I totally can't understand the criticism either, unjust criticism I should say. Android and iOS were nothing special when released and had far less apps at launch. BB10 has only just launched!! This is the first version of it. It's not going to be perfect but even right now not only have they brought an exciting new and potentially great platform to market, they have brought some nice features this user experience is looked fast and intuitive.
Give them a chance! Give it a year or so and then you can really judge how good or bad bb10 is. First thing was to lay the foundation and to ensure it functions properly. Now that it's out, blackberry can begin to tweak it improve it.
Not quite sure what people are expecting. It's a phone, not a space station!! It's just become fashionable to hate blackberry these days.
If RIM had released this in 2008 they'd have plummeled the competition. If WP7 released in 2008 they probably would have plummeled the competition.
However, time moves on and trying to justify shortcomings in BB10 by pointing to what iOS or Android was 3-5 years ago just makes you sound like you're grasping at straws.
Those OSes were competing against Windows Mobile and Blackberry OS, for the most part, and were clearly superior to both of those. How many apps they had didn't matter (BBOS didn't have an App World back then, either, and neither did Microsoft have their Marketplace up yet), how buggy they were didn't matter. The fact and the matter is, even with bugs, ommissions, no 3G (iOS), no MMS (iOS), etc. they still pooped all over what Microsoft and RIM had on the market.decoy7 likes this.01-30-13 10:31 PMLike 1 -
