What's your ideal price for BlackBerry 10?
Similar to another poll here, but specifically focusing on "outright" (off contract) purchase price for the device.
The question:
What price would you be prepared to pay (outright / off contract) for a BlackBerry 10 L series device? - 12-03-2012, 11:41 PM #2
$99. Match WP8 with the Lumia 920 and beat iPhone 5 and GS3 pricing.

What's your ideal price for BlackBerry 10?
One dollar! JK I am in mid contract and have saved up my pennies and prepared to pay $400? Hoping for more like $299.
Sent from my BlackBerry 9850 until my kick a$$ BB10 is released ! I'm stickin with RIM til one of us dies.Z10 + PlayBook - 12-04-2012, 10:05 AM #6
I'm hoping they're reasonable and launch at around $500, but I wouldn't be surprised by $600 either. Anything over and I wouldn't buy though, and I'm hoping the Nexus 4 has driven price expectations down to make $500 more likely.

What's your ideal price for BlackBerry 10?
it needs to be below other os premium devices but not too low so it comes across as cheap.
if it simply matched the nexus 4 on price then people will buy the nexus 4 because they know what they will get.
if the bb10 was say 75 cheaper then the nexus 4 then people are more likely to try the BB and save on cash

It'll be very difficult to sell below the Nexus 4. The Nexus 7 is probably close to a break even price as well, and the cellular radio hardware as well as additional cameras and GPS and such in the Nexus 4 will definitely drive the price up. I'm sure they're turning a small profit on each unit sold, but Google's business model doesn't rely on hardware profits, and LG has TVs and appliances and the like that they make money off as well, so an increase in market share is worth it for them.
RIM makes money from BIS subscriptions and hardware sales, so they can't afford to play the Nexus 4's price game. A $275 London just wouldn't work, although that price point for a 'Curve' class BB10 could fly. - 12-04-2012, 12:18 PM #9
Re: What's your ideal price for BlackBerry 10?
yea, so thinking between 400 and 500 easy, and even though it will hurt I will be in line.

As I wrote in the other thread...If it's nearly as good as what I've seen lately, in videos and in person, I will happily pay $600. That's still $200-$300 less than an iPhone costs here.

I'm not worried about price. They need something that can compare to the competing flagships. RIM had better not skimp!

Given that RIM needs to fight to regain lost marketshare, and mindshare, I think if they try to price the devices like the Bold 9900 at $599 ($50 less then iPhone) would be a huge mistake. I paid more for my Bold 9900 then any high end Android or iPhone on contract, and even non contract pricing would have been more. Or if they go the Playbook route and charge the same for the L as an iPhone would be a huge mistake (as the Playbook showed). The dwindling number of die hard fans in NA would pay a premium (me included, but I would be pissed at being charged a premium again for a lower spec'd device like RIM did with BBOS devices), but people can go to many sites and do a comparison and if they see a premium for a non-Apple device with same or lower specs than other Android devices, especially Samsung, they are probably going to lose the sale, and that potential customer for 2+ years. RIM makes money on the service fees associated with the device in addition to profit off the sale of the device, so I see no reason why they cant match the price of a competitively spec'd Samsung device. I don't care how much better the L series is than the iPhone5, it can't demand the same price and be successful. Even lower prices is no guarantee of success (See any Lumia device sales figure for proof)!
Also I wish RIM would sell unlocked phones directly to consumers and let people use existing SIM cards in these devices. I shouldn't have to wait for my carrier to decide to carry a device, or have to deal with them jacking the rate up because they know that BlackBerry die hard early adopters will pay more. - 12-04-2012, 03:50 PM #14

And, the generic answer for off contract. I'd pay $399-429. I'd really like to see the real estate of a Piephone with the bottom 1/3-1/4 taken up with a real qwerty kb. - 12-04-2012, 06:31 PM #15
The Bold 9900 sold for $630 from TELUS I believe. Rogers was $50 less.
I think it'll be more that $400-$500.Pearl 8130 -> Storm 9500 -> Tour -> Pearl 9100 -> Torch 9800 -> Curve 3G -> Bold 9900 PlayBook (2.1.0.1032) -> Z10 and Q10. I need help. - 01-02-2013, 03:48 PM #16
I'm willing to pay between $600 and $700 for the BB10 and up to $250 in accessories. I know that seems like a lot, but i think about how much money I've wasted on "hobbies" over the years (all gone now) and this is not really that much in comparison

What's your ideal price for BlackBerry 10?
My ideal price is up to $600. Any higher than that, I'll wait for several months to save up and wait for the price to decrease a bit.
I truly hope RIM won't sell it higher than GS III currently priced at (around $660 in my country), let alone iPhone 5. No matter how good BB10 is, it's a leap of faith for many to buy this "untested" first-gen device. - 01-03-2013, 12:24 PM #18
I am hoping for a $500 off contract price, and maybe $199-249 on contract price. Of course I am looking at the 32GB Variant, no interest in the 16GB version.

I tried to remember my mobile device history and realized I have had way too many to remember them all. - 01-04-2013, 06:00 AM #20
Off Contract, ie sim free, I'm guessing around £450 -£499 in the UK. It's easier for us to buy the phone and take a cheap Sim only contract. My assumption is based on the need for RIM to compete with the Galaxy S4 who's price will be impacted by the subsidized Nexus 4.
I found a purported leak of the S4, irony of ironies is that it looks like a bigger version of the Z10. It even lacks a home button! - 01-04-2013, 03:24 PM #22

It would cost far more than that to build the physical hardware.
