Verizon doesn't support it and won't until 2014.
Dude I'm in Toronto which Carriers CAN/USA (if any) support HD calls presently?

For those who aren't informed, bell signal = telus signal, unless your phone can run on the new LTE max frequency, which the Z10 cannot
I've gotten HD on a lot of my calls on Telus in Montreal
I think it's dependent on who you are calling also. If their phone doesn't support it, the phone won't be HD

The reason why it shows up sometimes and now always is that is depends on who is being called. Only a few phones have the capability of HD voice, including the S3, S4, iPhone 5, Note 2, Z10, Q10, most of the HTCs from the last few years, and I think one of the new Sonys.

It does depend on network as well; if you're 4G/HSPA+/LTE, from what I understand, you'll have a better probability of HD Voice as well. The other party also has to be on 4G/HSPA+/LTE

For the first time during a phone call with my mom, this little icon showed up (The HD). Not quite sure what it means. Anyone have any ideas?

This is all my info if it helps
    OS 10.1.0.2009
    Rogers Canada (in Toronto)
    STL100-3

My mom is on a Bold 9700

And as you can also see I'm on 4G, which is rare.

It means the call is HD there is a big difference in call quality in HD.

Thanks for the answers but how come I've never seen it before. I've had the phone since February 16th. Is it new on 10.1?

The person on the other end needs a phone that supports HD calling. Most people i know dont have phones that support it.

I've been getting this since Feb and I'm on Telus. I guess most people I call have newer phones so actually it's rare when I don't see it. If you cannot tell the quality you must have bad ears because I notice it right away when the HD sym is not there.

Don't want to sound like I'm bragging, and I know a lot of people rag on Bell, but I get that on a lot of my calls.
Same here. Most of my calls are HD on Bell.

If that's the case, I don't think the bold 9700 supports it

the power of high deff your mom probably also has a phone that has HD calling and you guys had perfect connection. Was there any difference in clear voice? I don't talk on the phone much so i wouldn't know.

Has to be supported by the carrier and both handsets have to support it too.

And when it comes up enabled you don't need an icon to know it's on either.
