I've been wondering which is better on the data cap. Coz I'm on an unlimited plan and I really want to save myself some data. So I'm wondering which saves data best. Apps or just visiting the website

Apps would save data. Visiting a website is using data. Some apps are just launchers tho...so if it leads to the web, it's DATA.

Why do you have to save data on a unlimited plan? Or did you accidentally a typo?

Maybe he forgot "not" or maybe going roaming with billable data

Apps don't always save data usage, it depends entirely on what the app does.

For example, if it's an app for viewing YouTube videos it will use just as much data as going to the YouTube website in the browser to view them.

Even for apps that aren't steaming video or audio there still really won't be very much difference between using an app and using the company's website if it has a web based equivalent. The same data is being accessed on the company's serves over the mobile network.

The only example of an app saving data that springs to mind would be a Maps app with a Sat Nav feature that downloads maps to your phone the first time you use it so that you don't have to constantly stream the map data to your phone when you are using it, which would happen in the Browser. Navfree is a maps app that downloads maps to your phone.
