Default Verizon sold one million Z10s over preorder!? [rumor]

So, when I was in a Verizon store yesterday in Charlottesville, VA buying my sister a Z10 for her birthday, I asked the sales rep how sales were going. At first, he looked at my account and was excited to see that someone in the family had a Z10 and said how much he loved the phone. He proceeded to say that it was their number one selling phone in that store since it launched and that Verizon sold one million Z10s over preorder. I found that hard to believe but if true, that is a staggering number! Regardless, I left with a positive feeling that Verizon is marketing the phone well and that the sales reps are pushing the phones because they want to, not just because they were told to.

This would be awesome news, but I doubt it's true. The reps I have spoken to barely know anything about this device. I doubt they know about Verizon sales numbers.

I just got off the phone with one not too long ago and basically had to teach her about the device. She was one of Verizons "BB Specialists".

    Verizon wants to sell Z10's!
Their reps had extensive training on the device and the rep's seem very positive about the device.

And I highly doubt it was in of the blackberry specialist by any means. I work for the company and went through the blackberry certification training and it's extremely good. So good it convinced me to get back to blackberry.

We'll vaguely know come the next financial reporting period. BlackBerry refuses to clarify actual sales and activation numbers. If they cannot be confident in their products it speaks volumes.

I am guessing you are speaking to me since I was the only one to mention a specialist.

She said she was a specialist. The lady who transfered me to her also said she was transferring me to a specialist. According to Verizon, this was her title. There was nothing special about her knowledge at all.

Maybe you paid more attention in your training.

Hope the numbers are real. From reading the threads, Verizon Z10s appear to have more issues because of the O/S release. I'm afraid to know how many returns Verizon has received so far.
Buy the Z10 because you choose to. Enough reason in itself.

All these anecdotal stories are very interesting, but must be noted that they are anecdotal. So, some sales rep at your local store knows about Z10 orders but BBRY doesn't? Well, OK.

The dimwit I talked to at my local Verizon store said the phone was being returned "a lot". I asked what "a lot" meant, he said "that's what my manager told me".

I'd be surprised if, minus the returns, BB will even sell 500k Z10s in the US. Actually, I'd be pretty surprised if they even sold over 100k. I love this phone, but BB has a bad rep now, and BBM is no longer the killer feature that it used to be. I'm not being negative either, just realistic.

With that said, I'd be very very happy to be proven wrong.

I have a friend who was looking to get a new phone and I told her about the new blackberry. She went to two separate Verizon stores and they talked down the phone. So not everyone is out there to sell the phone (I still don't get the mentality of that at all).

Is this like the 2mm Q10 order by the Chinese government from last week? If so, it’s another nonsense post to get people’s hopes up.

VZ would have had to order enough phones to meet that demand and we already know that VZ wasn’t willing to take on the inventory risk by outsourcing it to Brightstar.

If you told me that the Galaxy S4 or HTC One sold over pre-order, I’d believe it.

Hopefully this is true but I would not believe what someone at store level says.

If true this would be awesome news. As for the sales associates no matter what carrier they are with (not talking about all associates), I think they all have there favorite platform but they need to make sure they are looking at the needs of the customer. I think if you work in that environment you should try and understand the different platforms and what they offer. I have told many about Mobile Nations in hopes that they do check out the site to help themselves and the customers they help.

Maybe the salesperson got the numbers wrong.

Seems too high to be credible.

Think about it...BBRY issued a press release when an unknown partner ordered 1 million Z10s. If this were even remotely true, BBRY would not only be issuing a press release, they'd be screaming this "news" from the rooftops.

Had the Z10 actually "wowed" me, I'd have bought a second one for my wife. But, sadly, I remain a complete skeptic waiting for further OS enhancements to make the Z10 even worthwhile. I had planned to buy a Q10 when it came out but having seen all the OS issues, those plans are on hold.

The ATT rep that got me my Z10 (on day one of course) was clueless about BlackBerry and looked totally bored by it. However, I toyed with it and showed him some features before I left. The next time I came in he was talking about the Z10 to one of his co-workers so I asked him about it. He said after we spoke he played with it a bit and then they got a class on how it works and now he is thinking about switching to the Z10.

    Default VZ out of White

I bought my Z-10 last weekend. When I went to the store, NJ location, they had only one white one remaining in inventory in the store. The rep said I was lucky. One store. But it's better than them having 200 remaining in stock, eh?

I am seriously amazed how fast it is. My kids have iPhones, and we were running browser races....smoked them. Same network.

The problem why a lot of reps talk down is a device is because a little thing called return rate multiplier. They sell a phone and it comes back they take it hit in comisin every single time. It blows trust me. So they are only going to sell something that they known for sure is not going to be returned like an iPhone. Regardless of the I phone is the number one call driver for tech support cause it doesn't work well. You heard it. It was the Motorola Droid X put the iPhone destroyed that by 47% last year and the number is getting higher with every software update.

At my local Verizon store, the salesman was very enthusiastic. He said there were several people waiting outside the store for it one morning. He said they got 8, and only have one left in the back. Big Blackberry sign but no units on display. And when I asked at Radio Shack, the two salesmen looked at each other like, other people had been asking too, and they did not have any stock. I am delaying my purchase a couple of weeks since my wife now wants in on the "new phone" event. I will probably go with T-Mobile.

Huge number if proven to be true. If critics can speculate at the "Death" of Blackberry why can't crackberry nation speculate at its "Rise" as well.

Speculation is great, but within reason no?

1mm above pre-order is a little silly. It’s kind of like waking out and finding out that the entire Apple App store was ported over to blackberry.
