    Hey CB,

I live in Europe but for the next month and a half I will be in the US.
I need a pre-paid data plan for my phone STL100-2 to be able to send some messages and Skype home.

Here I found the frequencies for AT&T and T-Mobile
    AT&T
AT&T Mobility - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    T-Mobile
T-Mobile US - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I found that only the 850Mhz frequency (band number 5) is common between US and Europe.

Do you know what carriers are able to give me at least 3G support? I read somewhere that only the 2G networks work for the STL100-2 in the US

    Thank you so much!

AT&T uses 850 MHz for 3G and/or HSPA+. I don't think this is everywhere in the country though, so that's probably why people see a lot of 2G. AT&T/Cricket Wireless or another AT&T-tower-using carrier is your best option though, because with T-Mobile you're going to get 2G everywhere.

I can tell you for sure that T-Mobile only works on 2G
The roaming deal with AT&T does not work.

    I got 4G on AT&T O_o
I was only expecting 3G but 4G works and there is no option to switch it otherwise.

Remember, what we (well, our carriers) call 4G is really 3.5/3.75G, or HSPA+. You must have been in a UMTS 850 area to have seen this.

Went to Ohio this week. There I only had 2g signal and without any data on AT&T :/
In Michigan I still rock 4G
