    Default USB OTG?

I know that the Playbook supports USB On-The-Go if you root it. I also know by looking up the Z10 processor that hardware-wise it supports it as well. Has anyone tried to see if it works yet right out of the box, whether for HID or Mass Storage with the Z10?

How to enable USB Mass Storage (Mass Storage Mode) on BlackBerry 10 | CrackBerry.com

Though I don't think that "USB Mass Storage Mode" is the same thing as USB OTG.

They are not. Mass storage mode applies to how it comes up when attached to a computer, i.e. as a drive to manipulate (within reason). The mass storage I was referring to was plugging a flash drive or something similar in so that you can manipulate the files, e.g. move, copy, delete. For example, I keep a USB flash drive plugged into my car and keep it filled with music since I can't stand radio, if the Z10 supported USB OTG mass storage, I could put music on the phone, plug the drive into the phone and add/remove songs on the drive so I don't have to bring the drive inside and remember to return it to the car. BB10 is supposed to be a "mobile computing platform" and if it doesn't support this feature then I do not know how they can claim that (though I know it has excelled in other areas).

You are correct, it does NOT support USB OTG. And I agree, how you can be considered a "mobile computer" without this is beyond me..Perhaps they'll be able to implement it in an update at sometime..

In this case, unlike in others that people agitate for a "software update to fix it" (like more advanced Bluetooth versions), I don't think the hardware itself (with one possible caveat, see below) is the limiting factor. So it's possible it could be implemented in a software update sometime in the future, since the silicon being used for USB probably supports it.

More specifically, the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC seems to support USB OTG (link - the Z10 uses the S4 Plus), but according to the USB OTG wikipedia article, it may depend on whether Blackberry used a USB OTG compatible connector on the device or not.

There are often politics at play. For example according to this report, Facebook was prepared to rollout a native BB10 version of Instagram, but Microsoft who has something like a 1.5% stock in the company pressured them not to release it.

Needless to say, Microsoft owns Skype too. The Microsoft takeover was announced a month after the introduction of the Playbook.

It would be a cool feature to have and show off. Not sure of the fully practical reasons behind it but that's just me

I don't doubt what you're saying and if it is in fact true then BBRY should be focusing even harder on releasing these features since they can't get a handle on the app situation. Do I want Skype? Not really. I'd use it every couple of weeks to keep my mother happy but that's about it. The majority of users want apps though so if you can't deliver in one area, show off capabilities that aren't available on other platforms. Do the stuff you can then work on the stuff you cant.
