upsetting that major changes to Data plans not mentioned until day of Z10 launch
Our sneaky carriers were quick to make pre launch bookings available here in Dubai for the z10 and never mentioned 2 EXTREMELY important details;
1) You must have BES 10 for the Z10 and no info available for when it will be released. Yes you can use active sync but that's not a full solution.
2) The data plans have now changed as Z10 data is not compressed as it was with previous blackberries. So no more cheap international data plans like $70 a month for international roaming 1GB data; The main reason myself and the 60 odd people I know who even have blackberries even kept them. The carriers and BB did a nice job of keeping this secret until after the release of the device otherwise there would have definitely been lower demand and hype at launch here. I know we dont have the cheap intl data plans back home in North America, but they were a saving grace here otherwise this market would not have been as good as it is for BB right now. The most important reason we have blackberries at my previous and current company was the intl data plan. Same goes for any of my friends here at their companies. At first I was glad that BB10 made such a big splash as seen in the news, but there are a lot of pissed off users who will now have to continue using their Bolds and wont be upgrading.
All of us are quite upset as we feel like we were misled, or I should say not informed of the significant changes to the platform and services after waiting this long for BB10.
If I am wrong about any of this please feel free to correct me as it would make me very happy.
EDIT: In a sudden turn which most of their staff arent even aware of yet, the carrier is grandfathering existing International Data Plans over to the Z10. So I just grabbed one and am setting it up now.Last edited by dubai_bb; 02-13-2013 at 09:59 AM. Reason: good news

While I don't disagree that it could have been better communicated... it wasn't exactly kept a secret either. The information was there and readily available for anyone who actually cared to look for it. I mean, just look at the date this was posted - http://forums.crackberry.com/general...m-dead-714716/
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up.

There's a lot of confusion and misunderstanding out there. Therefore, while there are legitimate issues, a number of others are actually non-issues.
Aside from the thread above, several other existing threads address parts of your post:
BB10 supports push email - stop the nonsense.

Given, I should have known better and looked into it on the forums but what about the other 99% of users who aren't on blogs and forums.

Yes a lot of people are extremely upset with the way things changed with blackberry. I feel your pain. It kind of makes sense on why the carrier's in Canada pushed BlackBerry zed-10 advertising wise. Because they will make so much more on data.
I love the device to death it works amazing but to lose a few featurpes it kind of leaves a sour taste.
But you never know maybe they will offer some type of option to get it back. P's bring back pin to pin.

Sounds like some people want OS8 instead of OS10. Probably not a bad idea for BlackBerry.

Without BIS the new Blackberry is just another cell phone on the market. Most were warned if they read the blogs before purchase.
Without BIS, what is the point of Blackberry for the typical single user. - 02-13-2013, 03:48 AM #12
Please read at least OP's post (not me) at the following thread (also posted up-thread). Then, please continue your discussion there if you feel BIS email was viable.

Whether BIS email is a crucial feature that distinguishes BlackBerry (more to the point you made above) is discussed here:
