I purchased a brand new unlocked z10. It will be arriving today. Happy to be returning to BB. Here's my question. Does an unlocked version mean we automatically get the software updates, just as the Nexus receives from google? Since it's not restricted to a specific carrier, I figured it would. Might sound silly on my part, but I was just wondering.

Unbranded with the SIM removed should, but unlocked would have nothing to do with OS upgrading.

The answer is NO. You can get OS updates from various means.

Well, yes and no. Some carriers push OS by IMEI number. So if you have a BRANDED phone on another network you may get pushed the OS update from the original, branded, carrier. Unbranded, you should get pushed OS from the carrier whose SIM you're using.

I have to add here I pushed the leak on my Z30 with no sim card in it and still got an update notice. my sim is in my Z10 humm makes way wonder eh!
