Turn off encryption on your 9900 and it will work.
This is the simplest and quickest solution for getting Contacts from a Bold 9900 to a new Z10. Thank you! It was a real relief to find this post. Cheers!
Nope, turned encryption off, still a no go. Some contacts transferred over others didn't. Notes on individuals didn't transfer over either. Some phone numbers and email addresses not attached to any names transferred and now sit their, ownerless... ugh. The bluetooth idea was awesome and may have worked in the most basic of address books.
you have to go to setup>device switch and choose media card to complete the device switch using the sd card method
Hi guygardner73, thanks alot this was awesome advice! It worked for me on first try...it transferred all contacts in about 2 minutes (I had almost 1,700 contacts!!)
by the way...love the phone...people just need to play with it for a while to figure out all the features....after all it is a new OS. For example I thought first that the video camera was missing and then found it in the top right corner where you could switch from camera to video....really simple, but I just looked at the wrong place!! So be a bit patient....and I am sure you will love it as much as I do!
I have been driving myself crazy regarding the transfer on contacts. I even went to a Bell store for assistance and they didn't know how. Without this forum I would still be stuck! THANK YOU!
Hello, tried different methods described without success. This is for Contacts, havent even looked at Calendar yet? (Email accounts posed no problems to set up though. Is there perhaps a specific sequence that needs to be followed?)
1. "Official way", installed Blackberry Link on PC, backed up data from old Blackberry 9800, plugged in Z10 and tried to "Restore contacts". It said it completed the task listing 1500 contacts, 1200 calendar events etc,...but nothing actually shows up on Z10.
2. Paired by 9800 with my Z10 using Bluetooth. Once connected, I selected "transfer contacts' on 9800. Message said it transferred all 1500 contacts and Z10 said it received all 1500. When I looked at my Z10, only one contact transferred. Tried repeating the process and the same since contact (top of the list based on alphabetical order) was transferred again.
3. I notice a reference to "an SD" method to transfer contacts. Can someone please elaborate?
Hi guys
I am trying the bluetooth method right now and it appears to be working although it is taking some time, prob due to number of contacts...
But the real point is event if this works is why the on earth has'nt someone at BB given it some thought? its taken them how long to launch BB10 and no one thought how basic info will be ported over?? just goes to show that once again they have let the fans down. I am really considering the iPhone now despite my hope against hope that BB would deliver.
since going on the bluetooth front.... heres hoping it works!
Bluetooth method works! thank you so much!
I wish CrackBerry posted some instructions about this issue. or did they? anybody knows?
Hi, on the Z10 in the file manager, switch to sd card, locate the downloads folder & you should find all your contacts there. I don't know why this happens but you now have the ability to transfer them one at a time. Sd method won't do contacts (at least not for me)
True... in the end I had downloaded them 4 times...
One thing about the contacts transfer question.
On my 9900 i have my gmail account set up and within the settings of the gmail account on the 9900 you have the option to back up contacts.
Ok so i have that option ticked on my 9900 and when i add a new contact, it auto synchs over to my S3 which is also attached to my gmail account.
Now on the Z10 is that possible?? rather than having to do it through BB link or bluetooth transfer...i was wondering if and when i set up my gmail account on my Z10 will my contacts also be synched over to my Z10 or is that not possible??
Yes, if you setup your Gmail account on your Z10 using ActiveSync (and your Gmail account has ActiveSync enabled). Google is in the process of dropping support for ActiveSync, so you can't add it to your account now if you don't already have it. This is how other people in the forums have gotten around the contacts problem. However, if your Gmail account doesn't have ActiveSync enabled, you will get a 403 error when trying to configure it. So if you don't have ActiveSync your options are limited in terms of trying to transfer your contacts.
You are the man! Saved me so much headaches. You deserve an up status to Crackberry Genius for this post!
I used Google sync, and it duplicated most of my entries. Some of them 60 times! Both on my phone and on Google. I tried the eliminate duplicate entries and didn't work. I had to manually delete the repeated entries. It was a nightmare. I hope that blackberry bring back the back up option with blackberry protect for the Z10. It was so much more convenient

:yes::yes::yes::yes:
Very kind of you. It DOES work. 3x.
transferring contacts via bluetooth is the best ever option i found
I traded in my 9900 to get my bb10 so don't have both phones together at the same time, therefore the blue tooth option is out I suppose.
I do have my 9900 contacts backed up on desktop manager though. Is there a way I can still transfer my contacts using the new blackberry link software?
Thanks everyone

hi if my bb7 phone crashed but you have the info backed up can i still transfer my info over???
As long as you get the backed up info onto the desktop. Otherwise I don't think so.
The updated version of BlackBerry link should allow you to transfer all the data on the PC onto the z10.
Otherwise can't you wipe your bold and restore from backup?

I'm hoping this works. After looking for 4 days for a brilliant solution, this could be it.
Waiting for BBRY to provide 2 way sync to Outlook.....
Also need a way to erase all Calendar entries and Contact entries if need be.
The new BB Link and OS 10 "options" have far less control over device, apps, as far as I can tell.
