I noticed that my Z10 when locked makes some ticking noise. It's uneven noise and doesn't have rhythm, sometimes it's faster, sometimes slower. Can somebody please check their phone and let me know. When you are in quiet environment put locked phone near your ear and listen carefully. Other than that my phone works great, but im very curious about this.

    NSA. Bugged your phone. Clearly.

    I got nothing. No ticking.

So many jokes, so little time...

Seriously though, I don't think there's any bit of hardware that could be ticking....

Mine has done this for months. Z10. I took it to Rogers and they sent it away, but nothing changed when it returned.
It comes from near the USB and HDMI ports. It sounds like something is shorting out, or the processor is making the ticking noise - it sounds like electronic switches being turned on and off, or something like that.

It's normal. The only reason you can hear it near the USB and hdmi ports is because they are not sealed that the sound comes through. It's just the inner workings of the phone. Lots of devices do this.

Not sure why one would hold their phone up to their ear like that though.

I was in my room with no sounds and opened case to change sim card and I thought that I heard something. With carefull listening I found that sound. But I didn't notice that sound is coming from usb and hdmi. Anyway now when I know that I'm not only one with ticking phone I can sleep peacefully

The only sound I hear when I put the USB up close to my ear is the creaking of the bones in my fingers. Nature's way of telling me "You are getting old"...

I can hear it in a quiet room when the phone is a few feet away from me.

I've never had a phone do it before, but I'm not really concerned because the phone still works after months of hearing the noise.

OK I think it has to do with build quality and how well the usb ports are sealed, I got all my friends to try this and none of them with iphones heard it and same with those that had q10s.. but those with z10s all hear it and it's very faint on my gfs android (nowhere near as loud as my z) so my conclusion is all phones do it (micro relays) but it's matter of how well ports are sealed to mask the sound rivateye:

Micro-relays? I hope you're joking. This isn't 1955, cellular phones are solid-state, there are no relays inside them.
