Two days ago my phone died. I stuck it on the charger for an hour before I had to leave and noticed when I took it off that it was only 20% charged. I got in my car and plugged it into my car charger, which I know isn't suppose to be able to charge my battery, but it always did so I was surprised when my phone actually died while being charged. I turned off anything that would drain my battery and in 45 min was able to get it charged to 10%. When I arrived home I put plugged it into my Playbook charger and after about three hours it was charged 100%. The next day I woke up took my phone off the charger at 100% and in two hours it was dead. Also, I noticed it was quite hot. It is consistently 40c, the coolest it gets is 39c. I read up on it and checked off all the possible causes and solutions. I tried rebooting by holding the power button until the boot screen and draining the battery and then charging it fully, I deleted all the recent apps I've downloaded, which haven't even been that recent, and I have not updated my OS in months. I just don't understand how this all of a sudden happened. To make things worse, now every once in a while I get a charging error, usually around 75%. My battery symbol gets an equal sign and an exclamation mark through it and it stops charging. Anybody have any ideas?

The symbol on the battery means the charger provides insufficient power to charge the phone. What charger are you using?

That particular time I was using my rapid charger for my Playbook.

It's possible that there could be something wrong with the charger?

It charges my Playbook fine and also my wife's Z10. So I don't think so. Also, my other chargers are barely charging it. The playbook charger charges the fastest, but still takes a long time and it randomly gives me that error. Once I notice it I just have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it working again. I think it's connected to the whole battery drain and heat issue. I just don't understand why it's doing this at this point.

Yeah, my first thought was that I killed the battery, but the more I thought about it the less sense it made. But this is getting old and I've only had it happening for two days now.

Mine has also started draining battery faster than it used to with no rhyme or reason. Obviously some process is running in the background on our phones... I can see it via battery Guru but because BlackBerry chose not to include a way for us to see what applications/processes are running we are screwed.

I wonder what it could be though. Unless they are pulling data from our phones. Is the option to send diagnostics and usage data turned on on your device?

I turned diagnostics off when I first got my phone a couple months ago... as well as every other battery saving trick in the book.

It's most likely LTE. The z10 listens and transmits on a ton of bands. Try turning off data services and using Wifi.

I don't have LTE in this area so that's out.

    Go Settings
    Security and Privacy
    Diagnostics

And flip the switch to off.

I had the same problem, under similar conditions (long loaded stable OS, no recent apps or settings changes). Reloaded the OS and it was fixed.

That's a last resort because of course I can't get Link to back me up.

Do you have any apps that might be "Phoning home?" Try restricting app permissions.

Have you reset the device? Try holding the power button down until you see the big blue BlackBerry. Failing that, backup, wipe and recover.

I'm afraid the last step is the only one left, unfortunately for me BlackBerry Link won't back up my phone.

I'm charging my phone now on my Playbook charger and guru estimated it would take just under four hours at 30%. I turned my phone off for maybe 10 min while it charged and when i turned it on it jumped to 65%!

Are you running an EBay application by chance? Had to delete this app as it drained the battery very quickly and caused the handset to heat up. Have deleted and the phone is back to perfect. Just a thought.
