The STL100-1 was built in mind with countries that, at the time, did not support 4GLTE. This was also at request of the carriers at the time of building the device specifications.

Fast forward to two years later and that isn't necessary the case. But you should be able to get HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 if your carrier uses this.

Interesting. There's just one line in Kris' article about it, and then he goes on to state logistic facts that would support such a decision but that doesn't really prove who made the call. I'm not sure if I'm still sold on the carriers asking for an LTE-less phone vs. BB just doing so itself to keep costs down, etc. He is right that a lot of these STL100-1 markets did not (and still do not) have LTE networks, so it does perhaps make sense to not introduce an LTE model. But if the carriers were asking for LTE-less phones, were similar requests not made for the Q10--which was both announced and released before the Q5--and then the Z30? I bring up the Q5 specifically because it too has a non-LTE model.

I agree it doesn't make sense....

But you'll go mad trying to figure out the reasoning the went on a BlackBerry back then.

Also for clearing the Ti-omap stock leftover? The company has stopped production for mobile chips way before launch of stl-01.
