My 9780 has finally started acting up enough that I have requested a replacement phone from my IT department. They were going to get me a new 9900, but I think I convinced the IT lady to let me get a Z10.

BUT, I will have to wait at least 2 months before they upgrade our server to ensure its capable of running the Z10.

What changes are required to allow me to have a Z10?

BES 10......

You don't need BES10. You can just connect via Exchange Active Sync, same as BES without the BlackBerry Balance and the BB policies, which you won't need or like anyway. Ask your IT people if they have EAS support on Exchange now and if they do, for the exact logon credentials /domain for EAS.

Keep in mind the following when using ActiveSync.

Intranet Access will require a VPN that works with your works implementation (I hope they don't use RSA tokens, as I'm unsure there is a current solution for BB10).
^ this includes:
Shared Drives
Intranet Site (unless external authentication is sufficient; some resources maybe restricted)
SharePoint (possibly authentication may work using a 3rd party app for more resources than the browser will be allowed to grant you; not a BB10 limitation but server side restriction maybe imposed).
GAL Lookup (maybe affected as in PIN lookup)

There maybe other things that I have missed FBA maybe able to chime in or correct.

Well, after 3 months, and rocking a 9900 for 2 of them (loaner) my IT department has started deploying the Z10 corporately. Just put my req in for one yesterday. Yay!
