An absolute black (RGB: 0,0,0) PNG (768x1280) is 6,755 bytes, how much for your "more or less" black 8Mpx pictures??

I have always used solid black backgrounds. You can use the paint program on a PC to make one easy enough. Just make the correct image size and bucket fill black.

Or you can screen shot a black page on your BlackBerry and set it as background. To get the black page just go get the dead pixel checker app and go to the black

There is a free app called Pattern. Search for it. It is great and has wallpaper for many color. Agreed with OP. Black looks great. Make the icons stand out
