    I've replied to several emails this morning from my work account that uses 1and1.com as a server, and so far they have all sent. I'm not getting the protocol layer blah blah error anymore. Finally!

    Just wanted to spread the word.

    Well it's fixed in the leaked OS, so just wait till its officially out.

    In the meantime try the K9 email app. I was using it, but now I don't need to.

    Oh no it's not! I'm using the 10.1 leaked version on Orange UK and still getting this error!!

    I have a feeling that the "protocol error" message could be triggered by a variety of things, so the outgoing email server you are using may just be picky about some aspect of the message format that the other people's outgoing servers are not.

    IIRC, Qmail servers seemed to be particularly unhappy about relaying messages from Z10s in the past. (Not a huge surprise since Daniel J. Bernstein seems to be picayune about a lot of things in his software. )
