The limits are usually set by the carriers.

If you're talking about the number of text messages that can be stored on the device then the limit is determined by the amount of storage space you have.

If you're referring to the number of characters in a text, then know that one text is maximum 160 characters. The Z10 doesn't have the character count yet but it does allow a "Long text ". The length of the long text you can actually send to another party may be limited by your carrier and truncated if too long.

Actually the Z10 does show the remaining character count - once you're down to about 10 characters left. I've only seen it a couple of times, since I tend to be brief on SMS.
