Does the SIM work in any other device? Could be damaged!

You're right. It can't. It's gotta be something else.

Sadly if your problem is not a common one then you're not going to get any help here. You'll not get any professional help in the official BlackBerry forums either.

So you can go to service centre and hope they'll agree to fix your phone or you can hope that someone here knows what's up with your phone and they'll offer advice. Most likely someone will tell you to reload OS. BB10 support is in a really terrible state right now.

Maybe it is a physical issue with the sim card reader. Are the contacts loose or damaged? Are they clean? Did you have sucess with a different SIM in your Z10 and have it be recognized? If another SIM works then perhaps it is your SIM but if no other SIMs work then it is likely your device.

Sometimes happens to me, I'm running a 64 gb card. A reboot of the phone has worked every time so far. I have way too much stuff on my data card
    Works well so far.

    Beamed via my Z10.

Get another SIM from your mobile provider. If you were able to use another SIM successfully in your phone then replace your SIM. It could be that it works well enough in other phones but a new one should have no problems at all.

I have cut a regular Sim card to micro Sim.
    Accidentally cut a little small.
So when inserting into reader if not properly aligned will get the " X ".
It sometimes takes a few tries before it is in place and works.

SIM card or MicroSD card? Somebody mentioned 64BGB, that is a MicroSD card for storage. SIM is for carrier subscription.

I have the same issue. It isn't a hardware issue, it isn't a sim card issue, it is a software issue.

[This for anyone in the future who has this issue.]
Update: When I turned the phone on today, the sim card was recognized again and everything was back to normal. I did not do anything except turn the phone on.
The two days prior I tried a few hard resets and removed and reinserted the sim card, however nothing changed. This is purely a software issue. It started for me when I was in an auditorium which had no cellular service. I turned the phone off to conserve power and then I turned it back on in that auditorium. The phone correctly showed a red X for cellular connection in that room. However, when I was outside again it continued to show the red X and said "unknown failure" on the home screen. Under "Mobile Network" it said, "The sim card is from an unknown source."

My phone repeated the issue again. I was not able to rectify it with a reasonable amount of effort. I retired the phone and no longer use a BlackBerry.

This is something I've been watching for a long while, hoping to see someone post the solution, or an explanation. When I first saw it asked I spent a good deal of time searching. My best guess is something is broken in how the device interfaces with the card. If you are using a SIM adapter I would suspect damage all the more.

Hey guys, I was using a BlackBerry Passport. Never had an adapter and never removed the sim since I bought it. I'm convinced this is a software issue.

Once in 15 days or month I do encounter this issue with my Z30,but after removing and reinserting the sim...and simultaneously a reboot helps everytime.
So I think this must be an software issue.
