How do you delete the contacts on the sim card? How do they get there in the first place? Tried using the delete local contact with no luck

In the contacts app, swipe down and get the settings option > manage sim card contacts > select and delete

Go to your contacts and swipe from the top and goto the settings

Then scroll down and select manage SIM contacts.

Then select the contact you want to delete. And delete from the section at the top.

Can't say for sure...maybe from a previous device you were using (if it's the same sim). I know many "non-smartphones" or dumb-phones as some refer to them store the contacts on the sim. I recall some of my old school Nokia devices did that...

I have someone at BlackBerry looking into whether if you save all your active sync contacts to the sim card will it cause duplicates and automatically link them

So is there a feature for specifying specifically if you want to save a new contact to the SIM card?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm travelling overseas soon. I will be putting a new SIM card over there but I only want my new contacts I add stored only on my SIM card and not added into my phone contacts. Hope that makes sence.

    Cheers

From what I have been able to figure, contacts get in the phone and stored in several ways.
If you are on any active sync acct and you use it to bring your contacts into the phone from outlook then the risk is when you lose the active sync connection or delete it you don't have any contacts on the phone
I am researching how adding them to the sim card (a z10 feature) will affect the sync with outlook, will they "link" automatically so not to duplicate

You can also sync via Gmail or other programs
Then some how maybe by manual entry there is a "local folder" contacts.

I am hopeful that I will be able to.copy my Activesync contacts to the sim have then link so not to duplicate so when I travel or have an Activesync issue I have my data. A benefit would be if Activesync and the sim had a compare function to keep both current
