So yes, as soon as you have your BES10 up and running, you will be good to go.

Does anyone know if you still need a BES plan on your phone for this or is it just a BES licence on the server? Last time I checked (pre BB10) I needed a BES plan which would have cost me 30 a month.

If this is still the case, it kind of makes BB10 for BYOD a non starter in my opinion.

When I spoke to my IT dept, they told me I would need to get a BES plan (we have been using BB for years in the office), however when I contacted my carrier regarding this, they told me that any Z10 plan you get already has BES built into it, so you don't need to purchase an additional plan. This is just based on the individual I spoke to, and I haven't been able to test it out at work yet (they are still working on seting up BES10). I will re-post once I get concrete info.

I have the BES10 server up and running. My Playbook has been on it for a few weeks now and it was Wifi only. The BB10 phone (mine is due in tomorrow) should connect to BES10 without any special plan. A typical LTE plan for the BB10 device should work just fine as it does not require any special hardware / software at the carrier to function. Once the phone is added to the BES10 server and you have gone through the activation process, balance will automatically configure. This is derived from the BES10 server settings/configuration.

I am still getting up to speed on all of the settings, but that is the basics.

I so so so wish blackberry would release this feature for the average Joe. I know so many people, small business people who would LOVE this feature on their phone, and MANY of my friends would switch from iPhone or Android for this feature alone.

No you do not need a Blackberry plan for the Z10 any more, normal data plans apply now.

1) Ok, so what will the device connect to for Active Sync in that case? I would love to know how you envision all of that, since BES10 is designed to work with Active Sync on Exchange ?

3) Can you explain exactly how this is done please? BES admins and enquiring minds would like to know!

4) Also, with out AD, where does one get users to populate the BE, since users MUST exist on the OU's messaging server?

Please get in touch with the ATT/ Bell BES specialists, not the CSR's - and ask them if the OU needs Exchange or not to work with BES10, and post the answers you get here so we can all benefit!

Balance is not all it's cracked up to be. Talk to anyone who's using it to get a much clearer perspective on exactly what it does and how it impacts the user. With Balance, your SD card is not available when using the Enterprise side of the device. Up until this morning, I was using a 9810 connected to my office's BES server. I just got my Z10 through AT&T this morning, and since I upgraded the device only, I did not change my account's features. In other words, I am still subscribing to the BES plan. I was able to setup my personal email accounts without any issue, but Gmail was a bit tricky because I use Google's application-specific passwords. In any case, I am having some trouble setting up my work email. I am trying to setup the account using the "Work Email" (as opposed to "Microsoft Exchange Active Sync") option under the "Advanced Setup" menu for adding an email account. It asks me for my "User ID", "Activation Code" and "Server Address". This process so far didn't seem unfamiliar to me. I had already requested and received the activation code from my IT group (as I was accustomed to with my 9810's Enterprise activation before). Unfortunately after many attempts using various credentials, we (myself and our IT) cannot seem to get my Z10 to connect to the BES server. This is what has led me to find your post and based on your signature, you might be able to offer some guidance.

Do you have any references/suggestions that I could forward to our IT group to see if we can get this moving along? Any help/insight would be highly appreciated.

That is exactly what I have been talking about for months now... with BES10 you cannot setup your phone as you used to! Also, and as Steve says correctly, BES10 doesnt offer anymore the great email features any longer. Biggest headache is the compression technique BB was so well known for. Go overseas and switch on your new Z10 and then look forward getting your roaming bill when getting home. There is so much more, and for that special reason I switched back to the Bold 9900, and have returned from overseas to see that I have written 100's of emails, and really just used 200kB under plan of 10MB.

So, if BB does not bring back those features, and include those in BES 10, I would not see why I should use the new 10 series smartphones, as they (except maybe for the Hub... which ya well, if you only email why would I need that) are no longer different (for the email part of the phone) from my iPhone or any Android.
You know what upsets me reading all the threads, is that some people are proud on the Z10, but haven't really used the BB series in the past for their work. I was always much fond of especially the Email functionality of the phone. All the gadget functions, taking pictures etc is not really what a BB was made for -
