Confirmed it through two guys who work at BlackBerry on my BBM list. Apparently it won't add any bulk and will be same size as current BlackBerry Z10 battery.

Do you guys think this will solve the battery issues? Amazing phone but crappy battery life!

If this is true, they gotta have stocks ready for crackberrians.... and maybe throw in a discounted promo for Z10 owners.

Same company that makes current BlackBerry batteries will be/is manufacturing it so it's OEM.

These are legitimate employees and I do not believe they have any reason for dishonesty.

    Very hard to believe.
If you look at the extra capacity Mugen Power is adding to the batteries keeping the same form factor, than I can only think BlackBerry did some very bad engineering with this 1800mAh if this news is true.

I think BlackBerry underestimated how much LTE drains the battery.
I hope this isn't a rumour, until BBRY announce this, I'll use the Q10 battery bundle to charge my Z10.

I doubt it. Battery technology has pretty much stopped improving. Until there is a big leap forward, what you get in all these smartphones is pretty much as good as it can be (for that size).

I don't have a battery life issue. All day and then some... but what ever

As for a 2800Mah battery within the same foot print as the current 1800. I have serious doubts in less there's been some strange battery development over the weekend that changed the power density capabilities of Lion battery's

I'm taking this rumor with a pinch of salt, battery technology has lagged woefully behind all other technological advancements in recent years. However if the rumor is accurate then BlackBerry clearly has more than just QNX up its proverbial sleeve.

There are better LiON battery making techniques that do allow you to get more energy out of the same sized cells, at what cost and how many more mAh per sq.mm. I don't know. Of course the manufacture is more expensive and thus more per handset or per battery to the consumer. All factors when choosing a battery vendor.

Check out Electrovaya, another Canadian company that is supposedly on the forefront, but I don't think they focus on consumer handheld device sized batteries.

Erm, not, it hasn't. There is only so much you can do with chemicals. A lithium battery is already pretty close to being an explosive device, and getting the energy density any higher would really be rather hazardous. The iPhone is made out of an aluminium alloy developed in the 1940s, and I saw early samples of what is now called Gorilla Glass in the late 1960s. The only things that improve are CPUs and displays, and really these are now good enough.
The thing that is very laggy in development is actually software. It is still much too hard to knock out a simple application that runs on a phone and is guaranteed not to drain the battery too fast. QNX should have advantages over Android and iOS here, but it could be some time before they are fully made use of.

They could sell it with a custom back cover.

Add a few mm, but for the most part it would look standard.
