    Hi guys,

Im new to the z10. Quite happy with the device really, but Im having some issues with the battery life.

Before we go on, here are some basic information that might be useful:

    STL100-2
    OS Version: 10.0.10.690
    Software:;10.0.10.90
    Radio: 10.0.10.691
    Browser: 10.0.10.288

The battery lasts about 5 hours under moderate use I guess, so I basically try to save as much as I can, but, obviously, it doesnt make sense to have a smartphone that only has battery when it is turned off. I dont know if it this information is useful but I currently live in Brazil and got this phone from VIVO, a local carrier.

I did some research here and found a huge amount of OS versions and got really confused.

And heres another thing.. when I spoke to the local assistance they told me I could send the phone to Sao Paulo so they could assess what the problem is - thats about 440km from here - and they would need 30 workdays to give me an answer if it is a software or a hardware related issue. And the person that I talked to said that it would be a better option to RETURN the device. Apparently, the carrier is not putting out any software update that I know of.

    My questions are:
1 - What is the best and more stable OS version? From what you guys have been testing, which one should I try to install?
2 - Is this the case of returning the device? Have any of you had the same problem (I think you probably had)..
3 - What is the easiest way to do the upgrade and downgrade if necessary?

Im sorry if you guys had to answer this a million times, but Im really having some hard time finding out a clear answer and decided to post this thread.

Thank you all for your time.

    Cheers,

I'm currently on 10.1.0.2006 and can average over 15 hours with heavy use... if you are only averaging 5 hours then I would suggest getting your carrier to give you a new battery as I did this also before I updated and saw about 9 hours use consistently.

Ok. I actually ordered already a battery from a local store because really.. I cant wait that long to solve this.

And how is this 10.1.0.2006 doing? Any bugs/issues?

My expectations are to be able to use the device, at least during one whole day. Nothing fancy. Five hours is really unnaceptable.

I think I wasnt clear when I asked the question.. but what is the best version? There are plenty 10.1 out there, for example.

And another thing I forgot to write.. it gets really hot after a while. I dont know why.

    How is your cellular reception?

If you are on the cusp of LTE, it will be very hard on the battery.

Try using the device on just HSPA to see if that helps.

Your phone could also be syncing and indexing all your files so that is really hard on the battery too. Good thing about this issue is that it will resolve itself in a day or two.

It is actually doing pretty good. I have not experienced a single reboot or issue with this os...

There are a lot of little tweaks you can do, but five hours is really short unless you're gaming a lot.

Run it all the way down until it turns itself off, then charge it all the way up. That recalibrates things, including the gauge.

Don't know if you guys have LTE in Brazil, but if so, turn it off when possible and use wifi.

Another really simple one is settings - > display turn off "Allow gestures when locked."

No gaming at all... I have a playstation for that..

Only e-mails, news, messaging, browsing, phoning, etc.

Yes. There is LTE here. I will try to do that.

    ok. Allow gestures turned off.

    cheers,

Yes, please, share them. I will take a look at them. The ones you have are for STL100-2 as well?

So I need to download radio and OS files separately?

After your post, I did a little research and ended up downloading Sachibar to do the update. When I opened Sachup I found another carrier here in Brazil with a 10.1.0.2354 update. Ive just downloaded it and now it is installed but it says here that my software version is still 10.0.10.90. Is that correct?

    Now I have:
    Software Version: 10.0.10.90
    OS version: 10.1.0.2354
    Radio version: 10.1.0.2355
    Webkit version: 10.1.0.3220
    Browser version: 10.0.10.288

Shouldnt they all be 10.1.... etc.?

No. Your right. That's wrong. It shud be 10.1.0.2312 for soft ware version.

Try rebooting one more time. See if it gets reset. But lots of times if it's not an official update thru ur carrier and done thru sachi it won't show any software Verison. So the fact that urs does is strange. Just reboot

And several apps simply stopped working and I can't reinstall them.

Kayak, Kindle, Games, all the android side loads I had, im+, the list goes on.

What should I do? Restore in BlackBerry Link?

Make sure you do a device wipe after installing. It ensures that the OS is clean from extra unneeded files.

Device wipe can be found in settings -> security

Yes. Then restore from backup and re Sideload ur apps.

Btw. Android apps. And ported droid apps from bb. Sometimes take a bit for the runtime to get started. Don't panic. Just try opening a couple and if they don't fully open. Just a bar at bottom. Then turn them off again and wait about 20-30 mins. Then try again. They will work then. For some reason runtime takes a bit to get going with some os

Go to the OS thread here on Crackberry and look for the thread that has 10.1.0.2354 with Autoloader. Back up your device data then download and do the Autoloader.

I tried the Sachibar way twice and it didn't take. Don't know what I did wrong, but the autoloader method worked perfectly.

They didn't even start to open. I just clicked on them and it went to some app that was already open or if there wasn't any app running nothing happened. I tried to reinstall through the app world the ones that weren't side loads but it just didn't work. I guess the phone is rejecting any line written for Android (the apps that stopped working.. kayak, Kindle, im+, all seemed improved android for bb)

So I'll try the device wipe, then restore and reside load everything. After the wipe and restore I'll have to do the sachup thing all over again?

It's kinda of weird because before I had the apps but a slow OS and low battery life and now I have a faster OS, lost the apps and still not sure if the battery life changed dramatically.

Actually. Do what was just posted. Use the autoloader. The sachi method isn't a good method for that os. And can and most times will mess up
