I am using it on 3g+ it works fine, battery is good, as I said in my post I think if we are going to use these devices all day and hard the Z10 like any other phone out there is going to need a back up power supply or recharging!
Not looking good for battery here too. had to recharge mine twice already today. couple of one hour calls seem to take massive amounts out of the battery.
i don't know if many people know this but it takes a few charges for a battery to fully break in and you should let a battery completely drain the first few times you use it to properly do this. being in construction and using cordless tools all the time i know how poor brand new batteries can be even lithium ion but will eventually settle in, as well when lithium ion is cold they are garbage, they don't hold charge
also if the signal is not strong and its constantly tryign to look for an LTE signal it will push alot of power to try and do this which will put a drain on the hardware and battery, when you're not doign heavy browsing or streaming of videos, keep the phone in 3G/H+
Anyone have any tips for a touch phone newb on how to conserve battery life even with lots of usage?
I hear people say not to tun on LTE and just use 3g, keep the brightness down to 50%, etc
keep NFC off wifi or bluetooth when not using them.
these are standard practices on any device its not just a BB thing thats for sure
that will more then likely be the culprit of your battery drain, everyone i know that has accidentally turned their NFC on with their Androids or BB have watched the battery die in 5 hours lol. my foreman did that one day and when he caught it at break time he had 25% battery and had to use my phone to make important calls :P
I am enough of a newb that i do not know what NFC is haha. I almost never use bluetooth. in fact, the only time I ever did was when i realized my friend's car stereo had it and I decided to surprise him with a change of tunes. I rarely have Wifi on, but I suppose that will change. When on Wifi, I should turn my carrier signal off right? that way i am not wasting Data?
I always keep my phones with no bluetooth, no rfc, and wifi only at home as I turn it off when I leave. I put my screen's brightness to where I LIKE IT and not a bit more, but I try to not to be to high. With a 1800 battery, the z10 should run fine for me.
If NFC on the Z10 is like on the Bold 9900, having it on does not affect battery life (well very very little). Unlike bluetooth or wifi, it is not constantly searching for a connection. On the Bold, it is only one when the screen is on (sometimes when you turn the screen back on you can see it takes a second or two for NFC to turn back on), and it waits for a connection then works for a couple seconds then idles again. I believe.
On my PlayBook I always keep the brightness down and turn bluetooth and wifi off when not using them.
no don't turn carrier signal off you won't get phone calls or text messages, not many carriers allow WiFi calling.
NFC is near field communication which is the tap to pay or tap to add contacts/transfer files. right now NFC is not a major thing so not many people need to use it so to keep it off is really no biggie until the technology is perfected.
on my 9900 i keep my wifi and bluetooth on all the time and i'm a pretty heavy user and i get a day our of my battery, i could probably get 36 hours out of it if i really pushed it but i don't usually use any battery intrusive apps that constantly need to get a signal, a good example is a weather app, if you decide to keep one onyl allow it to refresh every 30 minutes or so or under your orders, this should allow the app from constantly pulling data from its server and constantly using up power.
there are always little thigns to do to keep battery life to its peak and for those that know how well BIS is for legacy devices know that on others platforms they use a pull type e mail which will pull data from the e mail provider rather then BIS doign the pulling and just pushing the e mails to your device with it sees something worth sending
then the latest updates must have fixed this because i have left mine on and it sucks the battery down like no tomorrow
That's it, the phone goes back. It was fully charged at 2300 after letting it drain completely. I put in in bedside mode and set the alarm for 0645.
At 0715 I woke up. The alarm hadn't gone off as the battery was completely dead.
Serious issue here too. Have battery monitor running and have lost 10 percent charge in an hour and a half with no use bar logging on here to post this.
All wireless off, gps off, screen down low only app running is battery monitor to capture graph.
Just to add, in airport and did some light browsing here on crackberry site only and has dropped 5% since last post!
Here's my take.
Got the phone on Friday so yesterday was my first full, normal usage day. Phone of charge @ 7:30am then full work day with emails in and out, calls texts and BBM. By 5pm down to about 60%. Into gym using device as MP3 player for a hour, down to 50%.
By time I was ready for bed at 10pm phone was down to 30% so for me, with moderate to high usage, it has been perfectly fine.
My 9780 used to last a full day. When i got myself a PlayBook, my phone battery started to last 2 days, and now only needs to be charged on alternate nights ! So Yeah! When you have more than one device, your battery times increase substantially.
What do the Canadians think of the Battery life!
Thank you all for your comments please keep them coming That means u2 Canada!
So far? it holds a charge better than my blackberry Curve ever did
I say, hang on to it for a few more days. I got mine on Friday and at first it drained really quickly but in the past couple days it has managed to last me about 8 hours of non stop browsing, texting, short vids, light app downloading.

Sent from my White BlackBerry Bold 9900 ;)
Had it charged for a good an hour to and hour and a half. Took it off charger at 4:15PM and its now 12:11 am and im at 20% and currently have been on phone call for the last hour or so.
Not that much heavy usage but an hour bus ride there and back, i used the phone quite abit. Browsing, bbm, and texting.
So good so far.
Im happy.
OH AND im on LTE :)
