Virgin Mobile Canada reports the Z10 gets 10 hours of talk time, and 12.5 days of standby. I don't see how that's so bad?

Oh please, the least a phone should be able to do nowadays is make it through a day under moderate usage. The iPhone can, as can many new Android phones; my current phone is over a year old and one of the first to come with LTE but I can always make it until 9 or 10 pm (even with ~1 hour of Netflix in between classes). Only (supposedly) going until 6 pm is pretty weak.
    Damn, what phone is that????

So let's say since that's the only quantitative evidence at the moment, the battery life is not atrocious and is on par with what we'd expect from a modern LTE smartphone. Case closed.

    This. Read this guys.

Their battery tests are the first QUANTITATIVE tests I've seen yet, instead of this stupid speculation. Continuous page loading for 8 hours over LTE? That sounds pretty friggin' good to me. Sold. I'm buying me a Z10.

Why cant we have more of these kind of tests, hate subjective bullsh!t

There are things that just annoy the ever loving **** out of me when I see it in the press. How is it possible that the Z10 has crappy battery life when someone has sat down and put it through a constant useage test and gotten really good numbers? Eight hours of constantly running the 4G stack = bad battery life?

    Note two things:
People usually use the phone a lot more during the first few days, so until users begin to use the device normally, I wouldn't read too much into it.

And that the device comes with a spare battery/portable charger. (I'm assuming from what I've seen).. Sooo that more than makes up for the battery life in my book...

Did anyone really expect great battery life from an "always in always open" OS?

If your looking for a workhorse phone the Q10 I hear is that phone.

I live in a T-Mobile HSPA+ area, and the speeds are comparable to my friends Verizon LTE, most if the time when I speed test using the Nexus 4 I get around 14 to 15 megabits same as my friend on his iCrap 5. Just the ping differs by around 20 ms.

Ever since my 9900 died on me on new years I've been having to use my Nexus 4. Can't wait for Negri Electronics to get them in stock so I can order one.

Depending on how much I use it during the workday, I usually have to put my Curve 9360 on charge at some point during the day. I've got a car charger, so it's never an issue. When I go on vacation, I usually put it on charge whenever I go back to my room as you can really run down the battery when you in places at a hotel or casino in which you cannot get a signal (and turning off the mobile network connection is not an option) and my phone is in a holster. I've never gotten a spare battery for it and with my previous Curve, when the original battery started to lose its' charge a lot quicker, I bought a new battery and used the old one as a spare. With the Z10, I will definitely make sure I have the spare battery charging bundle, especially for trips so I don't have to worry about battery levels.

If the battery is bad then RIM has blown it. There is no excuse for it when all we do is talk about how great battery life is on Blackberries (even though in reality the 9900 bat life sucks).

We can't conclude that the battery life is horrible just yet. No one can because it was released today, it will take couple days for the lithium ion batteries to be calibrated.

Let's put this to rest right now. I've been actively using the Z10 today all day. Installing/Uninstalling Apps, Browsing web, listening to streaming radio, tons of emails, bbms and text messages.

11 Hours since the phone went off the charger. Just hit 50% battery life left.

    Just relax already. It's fine.

Yep, it sounds a lot like the battery life complaints have been severely exaggerated. Anyone with actual figures to back up their claims seems to be reporting reasonable battery life. In the worst-case scenario I'll pick up a spare battery, but I doubt I'll have to worry about it.

There doesn't seem to be any actual tests that say the battery life is bad. Both of the reports that have given us actual numbers have reported that the Z10 is at the worst the same as on the SG3, which has a bigger battery in it.

For the z10 to not make it through a work day, you'd have to be doing stuff that will wreck the battery life on ANY device. You can get over ten straight hours of of talk time. You can get eight hours of 4G browsing. You can get 10 hours of video watching. If a minimum of eight hours of constant use isn't enough to make it through even a long work day and commute, then you are probably working too hard.

Personally, I have six hours of commuting whenever I go into the office (thankfully not frequent), plus nine till five in the middle of that. Even with that WAY above average 14 hour work day, the minimum that I can expect to get is running out of battery at about 4pm, and that assumes that I never put my device down for the entire day (hardly likely, since my boss likes me to actually work too). I may well not be able to make it home without charging, I will admit that, but thats the same for every device out there. Things might never be as good as the battery life on the 9000 and 9700 but, ten hours of constant use (not ten hours of battery life, ten hours of CONSTANT unrelenting, 'you don't even stop when you're on the can' use) should easily translate into a full day for most people.

What the BBx10 needs is a way to put it into airplane mode without too many steps. I put my smart phone into airplane mode throughout the day to save battery life.

My BB typically lasts about 1-2 days with my normal use. My husbands Galaxy S3 is always on the charger because it drains so quickly. My drummer has the same phone and charges his S3 constantly.
My iPod gets charged twice a day normally.

My Playbook is the work horse. This device gets used on a constant and lasts the whole day on a full charge.

When Kevin did his post on the unboxing, he pulled out an extra case that has a battery in it, and the ability to plug into the phone. Basically, if you are in a call and can't switch batteries, just plug the extra one in as a charger, and then once your done the call you can replace the battery...
