I know verizon works on cdma but I'd like to know if anyone has tried to use/activate their unlocked verizon z10 abroad? Specifically Central America like Nicaragua. Would the phone work?

Also, it seems like verizon blackberry aren't updating software like the other carriers. Is this true? Ultimately I'd like to switch providers because Verizon is so expensive (and it doesn't offer unlimited data) to Virgin Mobile or MetroPCS but I'm worried that the verizon branded unlocked phone won't work or that the service will be incredibly patchy.

Any advice/help would be much appreciated.

You can start by checking out this chart for compatibility regarding each Z10 model.

I believe Nicaragua utilizes the 850 Mhz band. You may only get EDGE using the STL100-4.

Another thing, I did see some VZW customers post that you get unlimited hotspot data when you go from 3G to 4G (for the price of 3G). Don't know if this helps you but thought i'd mention it. Goodluck.
