I purchased an unlocked Z10 about a month ago, its an STL100-3 - RFF91LW. I am on The Solavei network which uses T-Mobiles towers. I was using a Nexus 4 before the Z10 and when I received my Z10 I just swapped out the sim card. Everything works perfect, I get 4G everywhere I go. The question I have is, isn't this model not suppose to have the 1700 mhz frequency that T-Mobile uses? Heres the odd part, I have an unlocked iPhone 4s also. I put the same sim card in the iphone and in areas I get 4g with the Z10 I only get edge with the iPhone so I know T-mobile hasn't flipped the switch on all areas that uses the 1900mhz band. At first I thought maybe I was picking up an LTE signal but I don't think thats the case either. I was even camping this last weekend out towards the Mexican border and still was able to get a 4g signal on the Z10. Trust me I am not complaining was just curious. Thanks

I just can't find the thread, but some say that an unlocked Z10 (RFF91LW) also unlocks the 1700 mhz frequency, which is cool

No the model does not have the 1700 mhz which is used on some of T-Mobile's towers... you need the RFK121LW which has the 1700 mhz

It doesn't have that frequency but once unlocked it somehow unlocks too the 1700 mhz frequency. The OP's experience proves that and other users in here as well.

I'm using an unlocked RFF91LW on Wind mobile which uses the same frequency (1700 MHz) as T - Mobile in the US. Haven't had any issues with the connection whatsoever.

The OP adds more fuel to the debate if the different versions (91 vs 121) are based on dissimilar hardware or based on software differences that can be equalized by unlocking.
I, too, have been receiving 4G most everywhere on a 91on T-Mobile for the last month. But unlike the OP, my observations have been in generally metropolitan areas that could have been refarmed 1900. It does not appear his was in 1900 territory as evidenced by his iPhone experience.
Hence, score one for the software theorists. Come on BBRY, help us out!

Everywhere TMO has coverage should have the 1900 but it doesn't mean it has be re-farmed for HSPA+... they need to keep some EDGE/GSM coverage for customers with dumb phones that don't have the 1700/2100 AWS band

I got mine for Solavei from GSM Nation, I emailed them asking specifically for the RFK 121. They guaranteed me that I could return it if I wasnt getting 4G even in un refarmed areas.

Tbh I was pretty adamant that I wanted the RFK 121 with the 1700 HSPA band but they linked me some threads here of people who got their z10's for use on 1700 HSPA so I went with it. Got it in a couple of days, it was pretty much plug and play and I get the Solavei and 4G notification. My area is definitely not refarmed. I have an old Note and it doesnt get HSPA on Solavei, not even spotty in and out coverage. It has literally never gone past edge.

I dont know why it isnt officially documented and why even archiving websites arent hosting this information. The Canadian units pretty much all have 1700 HSPA regardless of model number so it seems rather irrelevant at this point to talk about the RFF91LW not working on 1700 thats the one I have. Just need to make sure you get it at the right place and the right regional variants it seems.

Yeah same thing with me. To double check I used my TMO AWS signal booster and it worked (it only works with phones that have AWS, as my brother's iphone 5 doesn't change because it doesn't have the AWS frequencies)
