    The success of photos taken with the Z10 depend to a great extent on light. Nice, bright outdoor scenes tend to photo graph better. You can try using HDR mode which can blend two (more??) photos compromising the contrast into a better image (in some cases).

    That first image of that adorable baby is not badly exposed except she moved. But it also has a great deal of very light background which can create a silhouette or cause the exposure to close down to lessen the background brightness.

    As above- something in good lighting (not too harsh/high contrast), something that is fairly still, something you can get reasonably close to. Suggestions include cars/vehicles, streets, gardens, insects, water features or landscapes, religious buildings (if allowed), jewellery, shop displays, patterns in mud/sand/soil, rainy windows/plants. Maybe an interesting plant on a window ledge or shadows from light from the side. The best thing about digital is you can shoot like a pro- take a lot of slightly different ones as you can delete them easily. Take photos of things that make you smile- you obviously have a beautiful family but I know some people hate posing for a photo. Just have fun
