Yes the American system is really odd its difficult to ask this question in the UK because when you buy a phone on contract here the contacts are extremely flexible and you pick from usually around 10-20 different prices plans per network per phone which will vary in upfront cost and monthly cost and how many minutes/texts are included and then you can add features like unlimited data as an additional charge if you want.
I agree £38 would be fair as the cheapest free upfront 2-year contract.
Personally I'll be looking for a SIM free device and I'd be hoping for less than £500. Especially considering that you can get a SIM free Nexus 4 for £239 from Google.com, and I bought my current HTC Radar brand new SIM free for £180 from Play.com - 11-11-2012, 06:47 AM #27
Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?

I'd be willing to pay £450 for the L & £500 ish outright for the N. - 11-11-2012, 11:09 AM #28
Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
Note II is 199 /w contract in Rogers, BB10 can't be more than that on launch. I think $100 /w contract would be great.

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
Less than $200 with a 2-yr contract. Anything that costs more than the iPhone 5, SGIII or Lumia 920 is too expensive.

If it's under $500 off-contract, I'll get one. If not, I'll wait around for the Aristo.

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
I agree. Has to be right up there with the competition. Anything more, and the price will be a big fat negative in the reviews of BB10 devices. RIM can't afford to price things high to be perceived as a "premium" product like Apple devices.
Here is a really crazy idea: Make them $99 or $49 on contract for a limited time. It would show RIM is serious about competing and while they would suffer some revenue, they would get volume and make headlines. A "buzz" would be around BB10 phones. It'd be awesome if you got a discounted Playbook too with your BB10, but that is for another day. RIM needs to shout "Blackberry is back!" - 11-14-2012, 08:26 PM #35
My guess is that this idea is not at all off the table for RIM. It might be smart of them to spend a hefty chunk of whatever cash they still have left on-hand to support a very, very affordable price . . . even if just during the initial launch period of BB10. If they're not aggressively priced then I'm afraid that nobody but loyal BB fanatics will even pay attention to them.
- 11-15-2012, 12:54 AM #36
around 500 - 600 with no contact is still reasonable price. Above that? hmm, RIM will struggle to sell BB10.

HONK! IF YOU WANT BLACKBERRY 10

I hope it is under $150 on contract. That will draw a lot of interest.

Off-contract pricing should be very competitive... On contract, $200 sounds about right, or go as cheap as you want, Lumia 920
BB is trying to win people back right now. People that are going to buy these phones are people that have had smartphones since probably around 2010, when things started to really slip for RIM. I've had my unlimited data plan with Verizon since then, and since buying a new phone with contract would mean losing that data plan, every phone I buy now will be off contract. There are a LOT of people like me. There is going to be a huge spike in off-contract buying, as opposed to how it used to be where in general in the US people just bought phones whenever they were offered a discounted upgrade. Off-contract pricing is ridiculous, why should a cell-phone cost more than a tablet? More than a laptop?
Lumia 920 pricing, $150 with contract $450 off-contract, is obviously a gamble to put phones in people's hands, but it seems to be working. If BB did the same thing I would be in store buying a phone the day they were available. - 11-18-2012, 02:29 AM #40
If I had a good paying job i wouldn't mind paying $500 no contract or 200 with contract.
but im a college student with no contract the most is $250 and $100 for contract.
I got my 9900 for $99 when they had the deal going on. Without the deal would have been $199.Use Rep Code : N4E1 to save 20% off first time buyer.
Code works with both site - 11-20-2012, 10:22 AM #41
one of the huge issues with BBs is the price has been super high, historically, for a product that has been 'behind the times' every time it was launched. I am torn here because i know it will be worth a high price point 500/600 but i feel that people will under value it because of BBs pricing history. Personally im using my upgrade in march to get one so i hope to get a good discount on one

Would NEVER pay more than 498 Euros :
1. A Nexus 4 AND a Nexus 7 cost 498Euros
2. I can keep my PlayBook and my Bold 9700 who is working just fine, perfect for my mails, facebook, and twitter accounts.
3. I don't use my phone for gaming or anything, just reading news ( RSS, plus Twitter + Bloomberg app ), Calendar, Music, and messaging.
4. I'm studying In France as a foreign student right now, and it's bothering me that there is NO Arabic Keyboard on the Playbook, so i have to use my Bold for messaging in Arabic.
5, THERE is Arabic on both Nexus 4, and Nexus 7 ...
6. With 498 Euros, i can have both Android and Blackberry devices ( can't see the point of that, but it's just feeling good to have more devices xD )
7, There is Skype on Android !

I use my BB for work and play...if it is even more efficient to use than my 9900 it's like it's making me money the way I see it. So I don't overly care how much it costs.
It will however probably be 649 no contract for the L-series, probably 599 for the N-series. - 11-26-2012, 07:04 AM #45
