Poll: What would you be willing to pay?
So I am a little curious as how much you people will be willing to pay for a L-Series BB device?
I am asking this because we all know that BB devices are premium devices and I was just wondering how much would be fine with you to pay for it?
Either with contract and without contract,Last edited by tatail; 11-11-2012 at 03:22 AM.

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
Why did you leave out the most obvious price of $180 on contract?
What phone is over $200 with a contract?XoXoXo

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
Well, from what i have seen mostly is that most the BB devices on contract start at $200, but you know once in a while there are phones that come at $300 on a contract..
Maybe I am wrong, but what you would choose if you have to from the above prices.. - 11-02-2012, 11:31 PM #4

$99 would be fair.

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
I buy refurbished phones that run from $29 to 1 cent. My current 9800 was a 1 cent refurb that's been great.
I know that BB's have been considered "premium" in the past, but if they want to be seriously considered by today's smartphone buyers, they can't be priced above comparable iPhones and GS3s or they'll simply be ignored. In fact, they may want to price them just a bit lower to get some interest. Otherwise people will just stick with what they know. If RIM wants a comeback, then they need to mean it. If they price themselves as "premium", then kiss RIM goodbye now.
And, I wouldn't buy it at any of the options listed. I also don't think they will sell at anything more than $150 on contract. Anything more and people will just go with Apple or Samsung. - 11-09-2012, 07:31 AM

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
Seems everyone has a different price range in mind..
I personally recently switched from classic plan to value plan with t-mobile, so I will be buying the phone at full price..
As for the price range I agree to some point with @joeldf that it shouldn't be priced to high..
And pricing it right is very critical as well for the future of RIM..
If they price the device too high and get cocky that they will sell they might as well loose some good old BB fans as well.. Because when it comes to hardware android devices have the best of latest and android is a good OS as well on the same par as iOS on app count available in the play store.
So RIM has to take a lot things into consideration..
They don't have enough apps as android and iOS
There customers are on the decline
They are trying to regain the lost market share
Their hardware specs (leaked) seems to on par with those new currently on the market android devices.
Their new QNX OS looks promising, but it has not been abused by a day to day user..
I personally, after taking everything into consideration, would not like to pay more than $550 after taxes.. So if they price it at about $500 or lower I will be one of the first to buy..
And if I was to get this with a two year contract I would like it just about the $200 mark.. - 11-09-2012, 07:45 AM #11
Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
I wouldn't pay any more than any other phone goes for. When I got my torch it was $200 with a $100 rebate taking it to $100. I expect the same when I change.

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
I am in the process of weaning my phones off contract. I now buy outright and shop for best plans.
I would pay $600 to buy outright.Do those who protest the loudest or longest have a lock on the truth? - 11-09-2012, 08:41 AM

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
I know it is a personal choice but what do you say when the nexus 4 is going to sell for $350 without any contract..
Of course we expect BB devices built of higher quality materials but still that would be a lot.. - 11-09-2012, 09:32 AM #15

I'm the type of guy that pays to get what I really want so.... You are raising a valid and real question with this poll, quite interesting. Pretty sure RIM are very aware of this, I really hope this guy Boulben pulls one outta the hat, this is gonna be a big factor, for sure.

Poll: What would be willing to pay?
On november 12 Rogers gonna start selling Nokia 920 and HTC 8x, the price is about 599$ no contract and 99$ for 3-year contract. I consider both of them premium devices like I consider the future BB10 smartphones. So I don't expect to pay more then that.

AT&T. They have such offers all the time. They recently had a refurbished 9860 for $30 as a upgrade for another 2 year contract. But, as I said, they are refurbished phones. So you have to wait a while for enough to be sold, returned, refurbished and re-sold. By then though, most of the issues and problems of a new phone are worked out.

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
Wow maybe I'm set up for a big fail; I was hoping for 199 on contract, that's not even a low option here. I hope they learn from what seemed to have been a pricing fail on the playbook, didn't they price it at 599 or something like that because it was thought to be premium and it didn't sell well? Anyway I'm prob more of a cheapskate than others though (still hoping for 199).

Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
The reason I am willing to show my card to is RIM, I want to make sure they don't expect us to pay a premium for something that has not proved its worth yet.
Although I have high hopes for BB10 but still when it comes to paying for something it has to be worth what one pays for. - 11-11-2012, 02:41 AM #25
Re: Poll: What would be willing to pay?
I guess its weird looking at how things get priced over in the states... Here in the UK mostly its not the done thing to ask for cash for the handset, they just manipulate the contracts such that it covers the full cost of the phone, the only real exceptions to that being iPhones (go figure) and very high end android (atm on my network I can get a Note II or Galaxy S III for 'free' on a contract cheaper than an iPhone 5). So it is kinda weird for me.
That said, I would be willing to pay the same as I did for my GFs Note II contract... £38 month, nothing upfront, and I see that as being realistic for the UK market.
The new BBs aren't going to have record breaking hardware like the high end droids, or command an extreme premium like the iPhones, so they should fall below both of those classes, but I would be willing to pay over the odds to get one on release day or extremely shortly thereafter.
