so I'm no bb expert by any stretch of the imagination.. i have a bb z10, the problem first started with whats app kept needing reregistering for no reason, now the hub won't load, i can't even register whats app, i have no notifications as the hub won't work I've tried resetting phone, batt pull etc nothing works.. my question is if i am able to back up my phone and the restore it via the bb link will this help and will i thus lose all my data? if the phone does indeed need to be restored would using the new backup i made take me back to square 1?

You can probably backup and save some data. You can MANUALLY copy/paste unique files (photos, voice notes, docs) using the usb cord.

Contacts and calendar, there are apps but bblink can work.

But you raise a good point - sometimes restoring will restore corrupt settings/data/etc. But maybe not. So you can try restoring and if it works fine. If not, do a security wipe or reload the os yet again. Takes time but might work.
