Phone Insurance
I was thinking about getting insurance for my Z10. It's $7 a month with a $150 deductible. Has anyone insured their phone before? Are they easy to deal with? Is it worth it?

Well some quick math shows that (if you are on a 3 year plan)
$7.00 X 12 months = $84.00
3 years X $84.00 = $252.00
$252.00 + $150.00 deductible = $402.00 to replace your phone. I'd say by cost alone, no. - 02-15-2013, 01:13 PM #3

I wouldn't do it. First of all they may have fine print excluding water or physical damage. May not guarantee you a new phone, and u may want a different model down the road. Short of submerging the phone in water a repair shouldn't cost that much. Cell Phone repair (CPR) is a franchise in the gta with decent repair prices.

I did that math also but if the phone craps out before the 3- year term it might be worth it. I guess it's the risk you have to take for the protection. Hmm maybe ill just be very careful with the phone.

Ouch that's one **** of a fee to pay for a claim.
Mine is 10 a month including replacement for all kinds off issues, theft, water, drop etc.
Excess or one off payment for a claim is 25.
Used to be 5 a month but the handset cost has driven the policy up.
Wouldn't be without insurance though. 2r hour replacement is peace of mind

Not a good investment IMHO. My family and I are careful with our phones. In more than 15 years and maybe 25 phones not one has needed insurance. We are so far ahead today that insurance is not even a consideration. Paying those fees just lines the carrier pockets.

What is HST? And I don't think it's worth it really unless you are clumsy. One thing that works in the states is you can add it when you want as long as you buy it new from an authorized retailer and once you do add it you need to make a call or text to anyone just to prove it is workin. So when my screen breaks or something isn't working right, I call in, add it then use for a day or so then file a claim so I would cost the deductible plus 7 $ but I think it's gone up now to 9$ and so I bought my 9930 from best buy which I rarely do and I added their plan which 10$ and no deductible and 5 per year. That's worth it if you ask me.

HST is our 13% sales tax in toronto.
So it's $7 a month + 13% sales tax = $7.91 a month.
Over a year that's $94.42 plus the $150 deductible if anything happens.
After two years that's $189.84 + 150 deductible... = 339.84
And it doesn't cover quite a few things - I read the fine print. Screw that.
I bought it on my credit card and then paid the money to the credit card right away - this way I fall under the card's insurance. I already pay for THAT so why not use it.

There is a clause with Rogers about water damage. I have never taken the insurance but i have dealt with the replacement department. They are ok service wise but i did get a refurbished phone from them as opposed to a new one and i felt like i was paying quite a bit to get a used phone. That was 3 years ago.
The moral of the story... don't fall in the water with your phone in your pocket. - 02-15-2013, 04:38 PM #14
Insurance, no. Extended warranty, maybe. I purchased extended warranty from Costco for $50 for 3 year total coverage. If I don't use it in 3 years, I get $50 in store credit.

Currently a new Z10 bridged with a 16gb Playbook.
Several iPhones, Androids, and WP in between. - 02-15-2013, 05:31 PM #18
We taken it all the time with our phones. Just for that piece of mind.
Covers all damages. Theft or loss. Any problems with the phone.
If u have severe water damage, just call em and say the phone got jacked.
If you file a claim, you only need to pay 150 for a brand new phone.
Bell provided us with brand new phones when we filed claims in the past. Even the latest model of your phone if that model doesn't exist anymore.
If you're clumsy I say do it.
Our Bell rep said these phones are hot. Watch out for thieves.
