I have a dead Z10. It went through the washing machine 3-4 months ago and has been sitting in my desk drawer since then. This is not a thread about putting it in rice or not turning it on til it's completely dried out. We are way past that point. I got a new Z10 that same day, and restored from my last backup. I lost about a week's worth of pictures. Not a huge deal. Since then, I've upgraded to a Z30 and love it.

Does anyone has any creative options for the dead Z10. There are no lights, no power, no hint of turning back on. What should I do with it? Should I try to sell it? Is it possible for someone to restore my data off the dead phone? Should I just pitch it?

Maybe there are suggestions on how I can attempt to recover the data, or wipe the phone when it won't turn on?

I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, but let's see what CB can come up with.

Well, I know you are going to hate this but you will need the "rice" first before you can do something on it other than being a paper weight...

I wouldn't sell it until you're sure the data is all deleted. You don't want someone to replace a part and have access to all your things.

mail it to me. I'll disassemble it, give it a nice isopropyl alcohol bath, scrub, and reassembly. If it works, then paypal me 5 bucks to ship it back to you, and enjoy it. If it doesn't, then I don't know what to tell you.

You can try running a leaked autoloader, since they install when the phone is off. Chances are the board is fried, and there's nothing they could possibly get, without going to extreme measures. You could always remove the board, and sell the rest of the parts.

Take out the battery and store stuff in the compartment. Not a lot of space though. Picture frame? Glue a picture on the screen?

And a tip to some people.
Liquipel a company that waterproofs your phone through a micro coating, sprayed internally too.
They support the Q10 and Z10 plus countless other stuff.

Thanks for the replies so far.
To clarify, I did put it in rice for about 3 days, but there was never any sign of turning back on.

Does anyone has a disassembly guide for Z10?

Another question: Would it be to remove the 16GB flash memory from the dead Z10, solder it to my working Z10, and recover/wipe the data?

There are great YouTube videos on Z10 disassembly. It's possible for your phone to be saved by one of those outfits that disassemble it and clean the corrosion on the board. Ifixsmartphone.com saved mine.

You can pry my BlackBerry from my cold, dead hands.

Even, my phone went thru water damage. I didn't use it for almost 6 months. Then, took it out, completely de assembled it, cleaned with spirit, assembled back & it started. Got my data back too. But, it worked only for a while, then, my touch went for a toss. So, ordered a replacement touch from ebay.com & voila, it's working fine since then.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I removed the board and am listing it on eBay. If you know anyone who is looking for a Z10 for parts, have them contact me or bid pn eBay auction # 191038368883.

Build a small pontoon for it to sail on with a bonfire on board, and in true Viking style send it off aflame on the waves back to the Z10 Gods to be reunited with other departed BlackBerry warriors who died in action!

At this point it's looking more like an auction, than an entertaining thread with help sprinkled in.

You'll need to continue this here, after reading this.
